I would like to introduce to the board dogman Barry Hill from Tx.. Barry has just joined the board tha last few days and hasn't said anything yet so I will give him a shove..
.Barry owned and hunted the Great Gus McCray dog that many of us didn't hear about till a little over a year ago. The Gus dog was out of a son of Tn Mt Blondie and Yellow Jack and a daughter to Gold Nugget J.R.. I am sure Barry has pictures of Gus and some of his offspring that Barry has linebred for years.I won't say anymore about Gus because Barry can tell us much more about this great little dog from the past who has not only left his mark as a hog dog/ coon dog but has reproduced offspring that live up to his Family Tradition. |

What was Gus's sires name? Would Gus's sire have been a littermate to Wis. Jack or Bayou Stubb? Or same cross only diff litter?
Just curious. Farmboy-1

His sires name was Blondie's Yellow Jack he was owned by Colonel Sparkman. Sparkman got him from Robert as a pup not sure which litter but he was full brother to Wis Jack and Bayou Stubb. |

Thanks cajun, Gus truly was a special dog. I've got a kennel full of his children and grandchildren. You know that me and Leslie were talking last nite and do believe as we line breed these dogs more their just getting better. I left another post about them a little as big game dogs and touched on their breeding. Barry Hill aka Hill Top |

Welcome Barry, I have just recently heard about the Gus dog. Man you guys can keep secrets out west. I hear that the Gus dogs are get gone, game crazy hog dogs. I hear they may also tree a coon every now and then! Sure would like to hear about their ability as coon dogs and maybe you should send one to La. so Calvin and I can see first hand!! Again welcome, look forward to visiting with you on this site! We have a big family of Kemmer fanciers, all with different likes and dislikes in hunting styles, but we all have one thing in common and that is hunting 100% foundation stock Kemmer Cur dogs! Our gene pool is diverse enough to get what you want without going outside our foundation dogs, as it should be! |

Hey Turbo, me an Cajun already have talked about getting one down your way! I should have some at some point this year I've already pretty much decided which females to breed just waiting to get it done. Also we may have something out of the pups we have just waiting to let them get a little older so as to make sure we have what need in that line. The last few matings made over this last year have been so exceptional we can't figure what to get rid of, have to tell myself that you can't keep them all. |

Barry, you will find putting them good pups in GOOD HANDS, brings in good dedicated new members sold on these Kemmer dogs. As you are experienceing with your Gus dogs with line breeding from foundation stock and hunting and culling hard, these Kemmers are getting better and better. That is the SOLE PURPOSE of the KSBA and we are back on track and it is working. I have never seen more natural tree dogs of any breed as I am seeing now in the Kemmers and the Hybrids. Its amazing!! I will leave to big game stock up to you big game hunters as to their status but I believe they are improving just the same. Again, look forward to visiting and sharing views with you about our beloved dogs! |

The reason my dogs and I expect most kemmers seem to be natural tree dogs is they really want whats in the tree! Now I know I said this before but there are to many "tree dogs" out there and not enough meat and fur dogs.
I've had before and you probly have too dogs that treed hard but percentage wise there were a lot of trees you did'nt see fur in. Gus was the first dog I owned when he treed you could load the gun. He did'nt tree because a coon "might" be up there or was a while ago, he knew he was there! As for big game vs small, were all looking for pretty much the same qualities except maybe with large game a touch colder nose is desirable because of the varied and often dry, rocky terrain. I personally perfer a hard hunting dog because where I live often a dog has to range out a little to strike a track. I've sold some of my dogs that hunted closer than I liked and their new owners thought them really great. With a Kemmer a man can get whatever suites him.

This Gyp has five crosses to Gus in her pedigree. She's treed one coon that crossed the road. Treed hard! Been on one badger that she fought till it got under a big haystack. Acts super good!
Hunts hard. Just 7months old. I'm just letting her start herself.
