I'ts been so dry here (humidity down in teens) the hog huntin's been rough around here we've only had 1/2 inch of moisture in the last 90 days. Hogs are really ranging out alot and doing alot of traveling, their having trouble finding food I reckon as all the regular forage and crops are nearly non-existant. Was wondering how the huntin' was in other areas. |

What part of Texas do you live in? I have no idea where Anson, Texas is. Is there any coon and bobcat hunting in your area? Just curious, Loyd. |

We have a fair number of coon and bobcat, my dogs will sometimes run a bobcat, seems like if they do they nearly always catch it on the ground, cats don't stay treed around here very good. I'm starting a couple of young dogs on coon now so maybe I can have something to hunt at the fall hunt. I'm 200miles west of Dallas, and 150 miles south of Oklahoma border. |

I hunt about 45 miles south of San Antonio and we have forgotten what rain is. And I'm hunting free range, south Texas brush country without any type of planted crop land for miles. The hogs get to eat what God has provided, period. And right now, about the only thing left is the cactus. And that's starting to shrivel up and turn a pale green. And we still catch plenty of hogs, but that's because there are so many in this part of the country. But the hogs are in poor condition, thin and getting thinner. Two years ago we thought we were going to wash away, as it rained steadily for months. There were ponds on the ranch that had been dry for years that not only filled up but were overflowing. Luckily they're still holding water, but as far as the vegatation, forget it. |

Worked down on the Border back in the early 80s had a good partner that lived in a wide spot on the highway (Christoval TX) and we worked alot of the more isolated towns and roads. Just like the old song "Some of the friendliest people and the prettiest women ive ever seen" it almost seems like a lifetime ago that ive heard the names like Del Rio, Sanderson, Loma Alta, and Eagle Pass, and Sonora. Brings back alot of exciting memories. |
