This morning my wife called me at work to tell me that my kemmer female (3 yr old) bit thru her kennel (chain link fence) and got in with my orginial mountain cur (female 9 yrs old) and tried to kill her. My wife and daughter were able to seperate the two. I don't know if this makes any difference but the kemmer female is in heat. I have own this female for one and half years and she has never shown any signs of aggression towards my family but I cant take any chances that she might bite one of my girls. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Slim

Slim it depends on how much you like the kemmer female. If I liked her and wanted to keep her I would seperate them futher apart from each other. If you have owned her for for a year or more and she hasn't showed any aggression towards your family I don't think she would start now. Some dogs just don't like other dogs sometimes and this might of been the time for her.........Big Ronnie

A female in heat sure can be aggressive towards other females. I have seen it not just in Mtn Curs. I have to make sure females are sep when I have more than one and one is in heat.

I have seen dogs that would get along fine with other dogs but there would be 1 dog they could not get along with. if she has never shown any aggression toward people or your family I agree with Ronnie I do not think she would. TIM

I have two of the most friendly females that you could own. I had them side by side when one came in heat and they also fought through the fence and I had to move one of them to another pen. My 4 yr old grandson loves them and they love him and wouldn't think of touching a hair on his head. Birdy is 9 yrs old and Lady is 5.

Just remember to seperate them when in heat and you should not have any problems.

Note: I am baseing that on the fact that you stated 'no previous problems'.

Slim , Little Babs & Jessica's Yellow Rose were raised & trained together , one day they got into it & they grew a hate for each other that never ended, now all though they hated each other , they loved the family & never have shown in any way an ill bone toward us, I hope this might help ,if your female has all ways been friendly toward your family she will most likely continue to be but she may not never get along with your other female but may do fine with other females, I could hunt ol Rose & Babs with other females & they were fine but they would try their best to kill each other. GOD BLESS, Roger B.

Slim, I don't know what female you have, but if it is Goldie, I was around that whole litter for the first year or so of their lives, and there is absolutely no people aggression in them. When they come in heat, they do strange things, and they will sure go after another female sometimes. You can take your children around the kennel and see how she acts, but I would almost bet that she would try and lick them, rather than bite them. I've never seen a kemmer that would get aggressive on their family, and even more especially, children. Good luck, James

Slim I might be able to tell you something that will make you feel a little better abut this. We have had 2 females that have been right beside each other every day and they were getting along well together. They are both older females that are the most loving dogs you could ever want(7/8 Queenie and Lill Fiddle). Lill Fiddle is is full blown heat. Both are 8 years old and my wife and daughter feed them most of the time and is around them every day without no nonsense from either. Laree was moveing 7/8 Queenie a few minutes ago dew to it rained all night here and is suposed to do it again today, and the water was getting close to Queenie. When Queenie got within reaching distance of Lill Fiddle she nailed Queenie and Laree had her hands full breaking them up. Neither one was then or never have been aggressive with none of us or to each other before. But dew to the fact that Lill Fiddle was in heat is what brought this on and there was plenty of aggressivness but only towards each other. I think your problem is all dew to the same thing. A dog in heat just needs to be kept seperated sometimes from the other females. Like I said it's kinda a woman thing..........Big Ronnie

From a woman's perspective..................I agree with what has been posted about the heat cycle being the problem. We have had this same issue here and we have some females both Kemmer and Hybrids that will go and mark over where the male dogs have marked and where the other females have gone to the bathroom. These females will cock their leg just like a male and they are by far the most dominant females on the place.
