This was taken this morning. The swelling is almost gone now. Took her to the Vet yesterday afternoon for a check up and more meds. He said that the eye was pretty much gone from the git go because of where the fang entered (almost dead center). No surgery at this time because the venom deteriorated the flesh to the point where stitches would not hold at this point. Got drops to put in 3 times a day for about 10 days and see how it looks then. May not have to do anything he said. She's 9 mo old now and weighs 44 lbs. Thanks again for the help and advice yall.

Kenny, glad she is doing better. She looks good and she should be able to fuction normally with one eye! You know, I usually hunt all summer and never had problems with snakes biting my dogs. I have stepped on them and almost hurt myself but I usually never look down and just go about my busn of coon hunting. I have some hot feeders right now to work my pup on but after all the snake bites I have been reading about lately, I will probably get someone to go with me next time so I can hollar them out! Thanks for the update!! |

I know what you mean , Charles. I aint gonna quit hunting. This is just a way of life around here. I'll probably do a little more road hunting than usual for a little while. I've had dogs be well within striking distance of them and the snake never move. But if they step on him, well it's on then. No tellin how many Ive walked by or stepped over and like you, if I thought about it much I'd never go during the summer. |

Glad she is recovering and am really glad we don't have any snakes around here that can kill a man or dog. Would like to see some pics of your kennels, they look really nice from what I could tell. |

Glad to hear that she is going to be alright Kenny. She sure is a good looking female too. I try to hunt some in the summer here but it never turns out very good. We just have too many of these old blunt tail cotton mouths and they are anywhere there is water at in the woods. A rattler here will run from you if any way possible but these cotton mouths we have will run to you to or a dog to bite you and they aren't scared of nothing. If you try to take a stick or limb and run him you will be the one that ends up running and when you look at me you wouldn't never think I can run very fast (wrong). Theres not a snake here that can keep up with me, they are like a mule in the Ky. derby up against me..........Big Ronnie |

I hear you, Big Ronnie. They can sure put the pep in your step. That's the way the rattlers are around here when the temp gets on up around 90. Never seen one agressive unless you corner him or step on him. Thank the Lord i aint never stepped on one. If its too big for him to eat he tries to move on. I'm purty sure Jake suprised this one under the feeder bucket the other day. There was a king snake in the yard yesterday so I lead Toree up to it and when she saw it she went to backin up. I dont think I'll have much trouble with her provokin one to strike anytime soon. Take care and thanks for the concern. |
