I have got thur. fri. sat. and sun. off and at the camp on Yucatan by my self. I have been shooting a browning a-bolt 300 mag. for over 25 years now. I thought it couldn't be beat and was well satisfied with it and then my bubble got busted. Little Ronnie got to shopping around for him a new gun this summer and while at one of out larger sporting good stores that has it's own gun smith and gun shop in it he found this gun that was over to it's self. After a brief didcussing with the owner ot the store he found out that the gun was speacial order form them through the remingtons custom gun shop for the swat team of one of the police departments. It is a remington model 700 with a custom match barrel and match trigger with a custom stock on it. It took remington about 6 months to get the gun built and back to them and mean while the local police department found another gun like it or similar to it and they bought it instead. The sporting good store had to take the gun anyway and it had just come in when Little Ronnie was there. After a 1/2 day of discussing the price over and counting his money and borrowing more money he brought it home. Like I said me and him have been shooting 300 mags. for years but my best one i have ever owned want think about compareing with this thing. At 1 inch high at 100 yds. it is still dead on at 500 yds.. This is falling only 1 in. at 500 yds. and it does it shot after shot. It just so happens that Little Ronnie is working and can't get off this 4 day weekend and I offered to use his gun so it wouldn't get rusted up standing in his gun cabinet and he brought it to me. There just might not be no deer left after this weekend............Big Ronnie

Fine gun Ronnie! but I can't even see over a quarter of a mile around here and I dang sure wouldn't want to shoot at a deer that far if I could see him. Good luck!!Enjoy your weekend! |

I've had two 300's, and they are sure enough killers. I went through an accuracy phase where I only had fully custom rifles, and spent a bunch of money to get the utmost accuracy. I spent hours at the reloading bench, chronographing every load you could imagine, 300, 308, and 25-06. I still own 3 25-06 rifles and one 308. The 300s were abit more than I needed so I don't have any of those now. There would sure rip some meat though. I would check those ballistics Ronnie, the very best I've loaded, if zeroed at 100 yards would drop 32-40 inches low at 500 yards, depending on the load, and my loads were well above factory loads in velocity. How much a bullet drops is more a function of the loads, and if your Browning has the same barrel length and rate of twist as the Remington, ballistics would be close to the same. My all time favorite would be the 308, with the longest kill being a Wyoming antelope at a lasered 450 yards. In any case, hope you pile up the deer this weekend and have lots of fun. |

I had a Remington syndero 300 win mag with a fluted match barrel until i quit deer hunting. It was probaly the finest gun i ever shot. Im like James there is nowhere around here to see that far but what i could see was dead. Hard to go wrong with the 300. Check out the federal trophy tip bullets for it. I did a lot of research and they were top of the chart for accuracy, drop, and knockdown power. I really liked them, was able to shoot through four inches of reinforced concrete at about 125 yards. |

Mr. Ronnie have you shot that gun at 500 yds? If not I would go back and talk to the owner of that gun shop and at least make him show me what it would do cause I think he mislead Li Ronnie. He may could get some of his money back cause the best it would do with the best reloads is around 30 in low @500 yds zeroed 1 in high @ 100yds. But it is a very nice gun hope you have good luck. Let us know how you do. |

Here is a picture that Ronnie sent me from his phone. Not sure who he said killed this but I know that it came off our club. They have been killing some nice bucks this year. Ronnie said he had a nice one run across the shooting lane twice yesterday. All I can say is Mr. Buck better be carefull.>>>>>>>>>>>>Laree T

I borrowed daddys kawasaki mule while I'm at the camp this trip because he has a cab with doors on it (warmer than my 4 wheeler on these freezeing mornings)and it has a winch with a boom on the back to load a deer with when you are by your self. He only lives a couple miles from my camp and so this morning I jumped in the mule and ran up to his place and got to get on the computer for a few minutes to catch up on things. The first picture was a 10 point and the second picture was a 8 point and I can stand in the front yard of my camp and throw a base ball to where the boy killed the 8 point at. I saw a monster buck bigger than either one of these two thursday but couldn't get a shot at him. I only have 1 buck and 1 doe tag left to kill this year and I was waiting on this deer to come back but have saw 3 more smaller bucks in the last 2 days. They better be carefull this evening because tomorrow is the last day of regular rifle season and I have switched over to first come first serve mode today. We have had a good year off of just under 400 acres that years ago I used to farm cotton on. We have this year killed so far 38 deer off of and I think it's 28 bucks and 10 does and out of the 28 bucks 3 were 10 points. After sunday we can start coon hunting and there are plenty of them this year. As much corn as they have eat of mine this year they should be fat...............Big Ronnie

Ronnie, I hope you get that big one. Personally, for meat, I would rather bag a fat old doe, them antlers don't cook down to good. |

one thing about the winmag300--it kills on both ends. Ever year except the last two--it cut and bruised my eye sighting it in. |

Mr. Will this 300 kicks like a 270 or close to it but ever one I have ever had includeing the browning A-bolt that I have now kicks like you said. This is one of the so many things they can do to one these days like reduceing the kick with the stock. The less kick the more accurate you are with it too!!!!!!!!!..............Big Ronnie |

Well all I have done all week end with this gun is look at deer that I couldn't shoot. We have a rule that they have to be 13 in. wide and we are allowed 1 what we call a mistake buck that is under 13 in. and i have already filled his spot. I still had 1 tag left for a doe so yesterday I had made my ming up that if by late in the evening I hadn't saw a buck I was going to fill my last doe tag because we never have enough meat around here. Well 30 min. before dark 2 does came out about 250 or 300 yds. down the shooting lane from me and i watched for a while and then decided it was time to shoot one of them and call it quiets. I looked through my scope at the first one and it turned out it was a little buck with 1 1/2 in spikes so I took a good look at the second one and the same thing There too. I watched till black dark and nothing else came out so I came home empty handed. But this morning one of my friends 17 yr. old neice called last night and asked if she could hunt this morning. I just love it when things like this happens to because James carried her to her stand before daylight and he told her he would be in the next stand down from her and he would be back to help her load her buck up when she shot. Well James said it wasn't 20 minutes before he head her shoot. He was pretty sure she had shot a doe so he went to check on her and before he got to her stand he said he could see the horns on her deer. She had killed a fine 8 point and right by her self. I love it when these girls do these kind of things on their own. These country girls are a little different than the girls that hang out in the city parking lots on weekends. They got their own rifles, 4 wheelers and are pretty good shots..........Big Ronnie |
