Wendel I took this picture yesterday with you in mind. The farmers here are enjoying what rains we have gotten lately so they can keep the water pumps shut off and save the high priced diesel. By the last week in july or the first in aug. we should be in the fields starting harvest.........Big Ronnie

Sure looks good to see something green in that field. My corn seed is still in the sack. And right now thats the best place for it till the temperature warms up some. My corn won't reach that growth stage till sometime in late May providing we can get it planted pretty soon. |

Wendel farming here has changed so much in the last few years and i'm sure it has in your area also. It used to take us several weeks to plant and now it's done and over in a few days. In the last few years I would haul liquid fertilize for 10 to 12 weeks and now with all the 12 row rigs it's here and gone in a few weeks now. All the equipment has grew in size so much since I was a kid. I remember when we had a 560 international and we had front mounted 4 row cultivaters. You could cultivate 60 acres in a hard day from day break till slap dark if you eat your lunch while you were plowing. Then we made the big move up to a 806 and next it was a 4020 John Deer. I never dreamed that it would be possible to build a tractor bigger than these two was. Now all they use them for is to open water furrs or maybe a little bush hogging. Times have moved on so much that farming aien't farming anymore. Now it's just a big gamble if you make it from one year to the next...........Big Ronnie |

I guess change is the same no matter where you live. My next door neighbor & I still farm with equipment from the 4020-806 era that you referred to. The rest of the land around us is rented by the 4 wheeldrive guys that think they have to farm the whole world. One guy has a 36 row planter- 3 12 row combines - 3 semi's & at least 2 grain carts. They farm with GPS guidence systems that will actually steer a tractor or combine for them going across the field & I imagine they have their lap-top computers in the cabs with them to check markets & e-mail. This is a far cry from the old H Farmall that I learned to drive when I was a kid! And by the way I still use both of Dads 2 old H's on the augers in the fall. They are still a handy tractors to have around. Both are 1945 models & I wouldn't trade either one of them for any 4 wheeldrive that went past my house.
