there is alot of difference in the two from the way they hunt to the way you handle them

The way they handle is the biggest difference to me. I like dog that minds me. The next thing is there style of hunting. I dont have time to hunt as much as i would like so i cant spend all night on a week night hunting my dogs because they went four miles looking for a coon. I would rather my dogs go 1000 yards and if they cant find a coon we will either go home or find a new spot.

I was a hound man for around 40 years. Back then, I carried mail on a city route and I was in top shape for keeping up with them Walker hounds. I could walk my route and then load up the hounds and walk half the night.

I got older and in not too good shape as I was working inside the Post Office and I sold my hounds and got a Kemmer Cur.

I have to say , I caught a lot of coons with my Walkers, but found out that a cur dog is much more enjoyable to hunt.

I saw on one of the boards maybe this one (get a cur for the fur or get a hound for the sound). I used to hunt walkers years ago and that is mostly what I done when I had them (HUNTED THOSE WALKERS) hunted for them that is..............Big Ronnie

I love the sound of a good hound you can hear him a long ways and they are some beautiful dogs out there in the hound world but most do hunt alittle deep

As I've gotten older I appreciate more and more the handling qualities of
these Kemmer curs. That said....I have had some outstanding hounds over the years, and there are good and bad in both hounds and curs.

ive had hounds (blue tics)when i was 18 to about 35,the land got bought up and the Mcmasions were built so we lost alot of land to hunt, toward the end i was always gathering up my hounds in someones yard.Needless to say they werent happy. BIGSAW ive only been back for 1yr with the curs and they seem to be working out really well here in NJ.They wont hunt out miles and if theres no game i can call em off and move to a new spot. The way they handle is remarkable,i can only compair them to my labs, in the way they handle.

I would say if you were to lump all hounds into one pile and all curs into another you could generalize that hounds are more track driven, harder treeing go yonder dogs with little less handle that curs. but make no mistake about it there are curs that hunt that way and hounds that hunt the way you think a cur would and handle. If you have the time and want to you can make a hound hunt how you want it and the same with a cur. There are cur dogs that I have hunted with that u didn't unsnap unless u were willing to go get they didn't come back when called. Just flat left the country. And I hunted a walker female for a while that you could call off any tree and forget the leash. So I believe that you can teach either one to suiyou but there are some natural traits in the individual dogs that make that easier. In either breed.

The Blueticks I was raised up hunting, out of my uncles line of dogs, hunted with you and for you. We could call them off of a track or a tree. They checked-back-in with you, if they hadn't found game with-in 30 minutes after being turned loose. I hunted these dogs from the time I was 4 or 5 yrs old, up until about 6 yrs ago. I'm 33 now. Due to both my uncles and my poor health, the line got down to one old stud dog. I bred him back to a gyp that I co-owned with another guy. The gyp went back to my uncles dogs on her dams side. Me & the guy owned her 75/25 ( me 75, him 25 ). Anyway, he sold her without talking to me about it, before the pups were born. He then moved, and called to tell me he sold the gyp to help cover moving expenses. I never got any $$ out of it, which isn't the problem, but he wouldn't tell me who he sold her to, so i wasn't able to get her back. Of course, whoever bought her didn't get her papers, cuz I had them. Wonder if she ended up false-papered? The police said it was a civil matter, and I couldn't afford to take it to court. Anyway, the old male died before I got the chance to breed him again, and a great strain of Blueticks were lost. These Kemmers are the only dogs I've found that pleases me as much as they did, and these Kemmers are more consistant at producing GREAT tree dogs.

Shannon- I wished I could have hunted with your uncles hounds. I know I would have enjoyed following them through the woods. I'm glad you found what you were looking for in these Kemmer Stock Curs. I saw some pictures of your gyp that you picked out as a pup that Laree posted somewhere on here. You got a good eye for dog flesh fella!!!!!!!!!
