Most of you know that I have carried two items with me on our hunts for the last several years and but only a few know that both were stolen from my truck back in February. The first is a stainless Ruger Bisley Vaquero in 44 mag with custom ivory grips and the second is a custom made Bowie knife. Both proved difficult to replace as Ruger stopped making the Vaquero in 44 mag several years ago and obviously the knife was a one of a kind. Luckily, after a month of searching the internet, I found a gun dealer in Arizona that had a brand new Ruger like mine and I jumped on it. I'm still waiting to get a set of ivory grips in and when I do I'll ship them off to have the custom work done. As far as the knife, again after a lot of internet searching, I found a company on Ebay that sells "custom" knives very similiar to my old one. The blade is identical, but the stag grips are different. Apparently this company sells a lot of these knives, same blade but with a different & unique stag handle, so in essence they are custom, one of a kind. Well, to help prevent future theft of my knife I had a local man do some laser work to the knife. I know it may not stop someone from stealing it, but may, just maybe, they'll think twice before doing so? Of course I had the serial number to the pistol and it's entered into the system so one day it will pop up on the radar, and hopefully in decent shape. And the new grips for my new Ruge will be customized in a similiar fashion as the knife so even they will be useless to a thief. But nothing is foolproof. Obviously for security reasons I grayed out my drivers license number. ![]() before laser work ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and the Marine Corps eagle, globe, & anchor

Believe it or not, we carry firearms for 4 reasons In order: 1. Javelina 2. Rattlesnakes 3. Illegal Immigrants (this may soon move up to the #1 spot due to the increase of incidents with them) 4. when all else fails, we have to shoot the hog (usually when they take to water as I hate releasing bulldogs and if there's a risk of gator attacks) |

Don't wanna shoot a dog for starters. Ammo gets expensive. Less noise, doesn't make them run to the next county. Main reason, my therapist says I need to do it to satisfy my adrenaline overload. I've been diaganosed as a Type T personality. look it up, means adrenalin junkie or Thrill seeker.......hey, it's the way the good Lord wired me!
