in our part of the country when the river gets high each year there is still some high ground on some of our bigger islands like Davis Island and the island across the lake from our camp that generally don't go under and the deer know this. A year like this year the deer will go to the high ground and each day the high ground will get smaller and smaller with less and less to eat. By the time the river gets high enough to flood what was left of the dry ground the deer will have gotten weak from like of food and they have little ones now also to. There last chance of survival for them would have been for them to swim for miles in the strong current of the river to get out of the flooded waters. in some of these areas it would have been a 3 to 5 mile swim for them. There chances of makeing a swim like this would have been slim. I look for a real big loss in our deer herd from this flood this year...........Big Ronnie
