I have recently started having fly problems around my dog kennel. I bought on of those fly bag traps and it has worked well trapping flies,(20-30 inside in about 4 days) but she still has flies on her. Was thinking about some of the cattle tags but didnt know if that would hurt the puppies. What would be safe to put on a pregnant dog that is around day 21 of 63? |

Nathan, not sure of your kennel situation. If your dogs are on concrete the better fly control you can maintain. Be sure to keep the area clean of waste free! This is key to fly control. The fish cleaning area at Venice Marina is busy most of 365 days a year. They have gallon bags filled with water hanging in the cleaning area for fly control. I said no way but put some in my kennel just to see. It didn't work much at first but after a while I did notice the fly population decreasing. Now there is no more flys around my kennel than my patio. I am a believer now. As for as what to put on an expecting female, I can't answer that other than to tell you I have never put any type of insecticide on a whelping gyp. I just try and keep the area fly'less as possible. ![]()

I usually spray the area with Permethrin with will help with fleas, ticks, and flies. I use appx 2-4oz per gallon of water in a garden sprayer. Might work for you! |

I have used cattle tags. I would not use them on pups or female. I use lime around kennel area and spray kennel down about every day. Seems to help. I have horses and seem to have a lot of fleas in early summer. then they start to slow down. Have tried bags, traps and sticky rolls. Maybe someone can come up with something better. Gene |

I had to look three times at the picture before I found the water bags. I couldn't get past looking at the fish. Laree uses the zip lock bags filled with water also.............Big Ronnie |
