I am brand new to Kemmer dogs, and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some kind of brief summary of each popular line within the breed...something like: Target lines tend to be open on track, hunt deep, and can be rough on game, etc.(Not saying that's neccessarily true!) I realize that opinions would play a part, but it would benefit someone ignorant about the breed like myself. |

What you have now more so are a lot of Mixed lines. Don't get me wrong, several are concentrating the lines but if you were to look at the number of dogs produced, the average would be a cross of the main lines. Many procuding new lines from these older lines that have become mixed. If you are strictly looking for a nice hunting dog, You would do well to find a pup from 2 100% kemmer dogs that hunt the way you like or have produced dogs that hunt or act the way you like. The Heavy Target dogs today all have a good dose of Nugget and most have some Jack too. The Heavy Blondie IV dogs that are left have a lot of Target and Some Nugget, The Jake Lou dogs are from a 3/4 Nugget Female so they are a cross of Nugget as well as Jack and Bob breeding. If the right dogs are used to keep a line you can keep a trait from that line but each dog in a litter can be different so if the wrong dog was used to keep a line it might show minimal traits from that line and show more from other dogs added in to keep that line. That being said, I perfer a Lot of Target Breeding and Traits in a coon dog, and Like a Lot of Blondie III and IV in a SQ dog. It will depend on a whole lot more than that but that's my preference. Very good post Thomas! I think a lot of our dedicated Kemmers folks are realizing the importance of trying to maintain the different lines of Kemmers to give us a pool of genes to draw from when we need or want to add certain traits to our dogs. I think now that a lot of us are realizing the gift that Robert Kemmer has in breeding dogs. He took a lot of criticism from some that didn't have a clue or just simply jealous for his breeding practices of inbreeding and preserving certain blood such as the 7/8's Gold Nuggets, Gold Nugget Jr, Yellow Jack, Yellow Bob, Blondie III, etc. There are great dogs that have come form these combinations and are reproducing same such as Target, Striker, Boomer, Jake, Buckshot, Strut, New Nugget, Lady Nugget, Hunter, WI Buck, Woody, etc..... As we move forward new super stars will avail themselves for us to parlay their genes. We all need to keep moving forward but always drawing from our past to preserve and improve our dogs. This is the thing that has made Robert Kemmer the breeder that he has been the fact that his dogs reproduce themselves over and over. He made the correct selections early on and concentrated that blood and we find people that use different strains of the Kemmers on different game and believe that some are better on some types of game than others. I believe that is true but I also believe a lot of that has to do with the owner/handler. These dogs love to run to catch and they also love to please there masters if brought up correctly not a master that kicks them around and never lets them out the pen of course. BJ Buck is known today for his offspring making good Hog/Bear dogs but remember BJ Buck was a Squirrel Dog Champion . Remember outside of true culls in this stock of dogs and I believe there are far less culls than most breeds these dogs can't get any better than the man hunting them. The Jimino's out there get great results on all types of game with all lines of Kemmers.

Glad to see you on the board Steven. Your pup is doing great, even though you actually haven't picked it out yet, but they are all doing great. I'll try to take some new pictures this afternoon and get them posted on the website. |

Steven, my main desktop is down, so I'm either on the puter at work (like I am now) or I have to use my wife or daughters laptops. So I haven't been able to update pictures and such as easily as I'd like. Will try tonight though. |
