We have always had gaters but they have mutiplied in the last few years. When we and looked at the high water today every where you looked there were gaters. I saw a gater today that was ever bit of 10 ft. and he had what looked to be what was left of a little deer. He had in his mouth and it's legs were hanging out of his mouth and there were 5 or 6 more gaters that were following him around waiting and watching to be sure he didn't leave none of it nowhere. Here are a few pictures and they might look like the same gaters but each picture is of a different gater except for maybe one or two..............Big Ronnie

This is the gater that had what I think was a little deer. He came off of the bank with it with the other gaters chaseing him and it had a lot of white on what ever it was. The deer have little ones now and if they get too close to the water they don't have a chance.

If you look close here you can see what looks like the legs hanging out of his mouth. The more I look at it the more I don't think it was a deer but I have no idea of what else it could have been.

Here he is here swimming off with it. I had a video of it but I hit the wrong button and you know what happened to it.

They are watching everything so close over there now that if you shot one there would be a dozen men with them green suits on there before you got it cleaned. Soon as the river gets back to normal the gaters will ease back to thier old homes too just like the deer do and everything else that lives on the river (includeing Daddy and Momma). The gaters are still there but you mostly know where to go and where not to go with the dogs. Hog as for as gater stew we don't fix it that way untill we get tired of eating it fried. The tail is good but on each side of his jaws is what we call the joels and this is the first thing that gets cut out when you kill one. It is a solid big muscle that works his jaws and it is nothing but pure meat with no fat. The fat on a gater is what you really want to be sure get rid of when you are cooking it. You cook just pure meat with no fat. Salt, black pepper with maybe a dash or two of red pepper just to make sure, flour or meal and fry it like chicken. A big pan of big bisquits, a bowl of rice and good dark brown gravy goes good with it. When you know you are a real river rat is when this is just as good for breakfast as it is for supper............Big Ronnie

Hog I have been hungry myself ever since I told you about it. The only good thing about it is I'm fixing to leave here and go to Lafayette to unload tomorrow. I'm sure I can find something good down there to eat. If I lived down there I would be AS BIG AS LAREE. :( ............Big Ronnie
