Due to dog injuries we haven't been out for about a month and we are planning on making a round Friday morning, but the ranch foreman is having a problem laying a water line from one pond to another about 300 yards down the dry creek that joins them. Seems they go out during the day and get the water to flowing and then during the night the hogs destroy all that they had done during the day? He said it's a group of about 30 and they are just laying up in the brush between the two ponds. I'm short on Kemmers, only have Ty & Jack as Bonnie is still loaded with milk, but the catchdogs are healthy and I figure we'll dump the dogs out here in about 2 hours, say 7 pm my time and see if we can't catch a pig or two before dark. At least we'll get 'em stirred up a bit! Cameras are charged, maybe we'll get a pic or two? |

Dee, we have used just one dog a lot .( one bay dog and one bull dog ) Seems like I get less dogs hurt with fewer dogs on the ground .If I put three or four of the Jake Lou bred dogs down together , it had better be a ruff one or they will have his ears off when you get there . Hope you have a good hunt . |

Dang it was HOT! Got on the hogs right away, 2 sows about 100 lbs apiece plus at least 15-20 piglets crossed right in front of us before I could get the Kemmers on the ground. Hogs ran into a white brush thicket, which is about as thick as it gets on the ranch. Nasty stuff. Ty and Jack ran 'em for about a 1/4 mile before I cut them off on the next cut over. Their tongues were about to drag the ground and had they had that thick slobber that looks more like homemade marange. I threw 'em on the 4 wheelers and headed to a pond. They barely hit the water before they crossed around to the south and into the wind. They opened up and the race was on again. This time I never saw the hogs but the result was the same. Wasn't worth risking the dogs, so we'll hit the same spot Firday morning. Hopefully the temps & humidity will be a little more tolerable? Emily was going to stick her first hog tonight if we caught one but her new knife was ready as planned. I had taken it to the laser engraver to have her name put on the blade and it was supposed to be ready today but wasn't. So in typical Emily fashion, her response was "See, we weren't supposed to catch one until I get MY knife!" Gotta love kids. She had a great time, even in the heat and dust. She's a trooper like no other. The ranch is as dry as I've ever seen it. Don't know how anything is surviving? Hate to say it, but folks in this part of the country are praying for a hurricane to come through. |

We caught two, but in this heat, you'd think that they caught 50. It is hot and dry, whatever is dryer than dry, well, that's what it is.We'll take the 2 and be thankful for 'em, especially with no injuries. Steven, I should've let ya'll come this weekend, these pups are like 6 hooligans! Like a pack of trouble makers looking for their next adventure.

Dee, at least you didn't strike out!! Mighty hot and especially dry for good dog work! Jimmino told me in this dry weather folks are wondering how he made such a good garden without water. He said that he planted his green onions between his potato draws and it wasn't long before them onions got them potato eyes to watering and it watered his whole garden!! Water them dogs good!! |

Sounds like you had a good hunt. Glad to hear they're giving you fits. I hope mine will instigate some trouble when he's older too! |
