I was wondering if any one else has owned or seen one of these guns it is a Remington 878 Auto master it is like a 870 auto I have a 870 from the 60's My Dad bought me when I was 12 I have seen 2 of these 878 shotguns this one I have is in all most mint Condition 30 inch full choke the barrel from a 870 will fit the 878 but won't work no gas holes it look's just like a 870 same stock but instead of 870 Wing master it is 878 Auto master. Just wondering if anyone else might own one or have seen one. TIM |

Tim- I'm not sure but I may have seen a 878 auto at a gunshow a while back. I googled remington 878 & it said Remington made this model from 1959 thru 1963. They manufactured 63,500 + or - of them. Some where in that period of time they also made the 1100 & the 11-87 auto's. I like the guns from the 1960's. When you pick one of them up & shoulder them they have a feeling of better quality than some of the newer guns of today. JMO |

I looked on ebay but there are none listed but they do have some parts listed there such as a forearm, stock, spring, caps etc. I searched Remington 878.

I knew they had to be rare I too like the gun's from the period late 50s and60's I had a Remington 58 sportsman engraved they have the place on the fore end nut to turn for high or low brass shells but I had only saw 1 of these 878 before I saw the one I have and I done some horse tradin around and traded my 58 to the 878. I love the 878 it feel's just like you are shooting a 870 which is what i grew up shooting. I did'nt know the exact time period or number of them that were made. But I knew it was around that time. Tim, I never have really looked at the gun section on here until tonight. I saw your 878 automaster on the 2nd page & I also have one of these guns. Mine is a bit different than yours with engraving on the magazine. Never seen any other 878's besides the one I got & off of the internet. |

Most all of the old remingtons i have shot have been good ones. I bought an old Ducks Unlimited 870 wingmaster yrs ago when i was working part time in school. I call it my goose gun because of the long rib barrel but the turkeys on the other hand call it their worst nightmare!
