Rob, Judd and myself went to look for some sign yesterday and got rained out. Went back today and found a few tracks. Put out a sack full of young dogs and one older dog. Dogs ranged out a little ways and found something they thought smelled good. One young dog was opening some so wasn't sure what it may be. Deer are fun for a young dog. Well, the older dog was right there and they lined it out towards a major (big truck) highway. High-tailed it around on the buggy to cut'em off and when I checked the garmin it showed them headed back away from the road, staying in the swamp. Setting there talking about which way to go and watching the dogs on the garmin. 600+ yards from the highway the fell bayed. Couldn't get up with the people in the house by the road to we had to go back around and thru a field (with permission) to the wood line. Still 400 and something yards. Only took what seemed like an hour to cut and tear a way thru the hillside thicket to the bottoms. Too much cover to see the hog. Sent one bulldog, let him hit and sent another for good measure. Caught and tied a healthy, young boar! |

Don't know how well y'all can see this but I wanted to try it anyway. The top of the screen is where we turned loose. The very bottom of the screen is the major highway. Where the red line makes a few circles is where the hog was bayed. The red line from the bayed area going to the right is where we walked out after catching the hog. The second picture shows the distance the dogs travelled at the top. |

I call him a pup but he is 11 months old. Only been away from the house about 6 times. Only turned loose 3 or 4 times, can't remember. Anyway, we got in some hogs the other day and he did okay. I saw where he would leave the bay, make a loop and go back in. I like for one to stay. He came out to us a couple times when we got close. Well, I sent the catchdog and the hog broke. Flint bayed again around 150-200 yards. Yaeger (catchdog) caught up with them and siezed to the hog. Before I could make it there, the hog got loose. Wish I could have seen Rob when the hog almost ran over him. Well, we didn't get that hog but it was the first hog in the woods for the pup. Next time we went is when I took the pictures. The pup made the nearly 4 mile race and stayed bayed the entire time which was an hour or so. On the garmin, the pup would pull ahead in the race. I was proud of the dogs. Don't like to say much about a dog because next time you'll wonder why you are still feeding it. |

" Don't like to say much about a dog because next time you'll wonder why you are still feeding it. " Creig Brown Ain't that the truth Creig!! In our year book under "Robert's Standards for Breeding" the last paragraph starts out by stating; "NOTHING ON THE FACE OF THIS EARTH WILL MAKE A LIAR OUT OF YOU FASTER THAN A KID OR A DOG" Still holds true today doesn't it!! But that is what makes it fun!! Glad to see your pup truning on!!! |
