Yesterday, my wife asked me to take her and her friend to the gun range so they could shot a pistol. This was her friends first time shooting a gun. Great, I grabbed my brand new and spotlessly cleaned Ruger Mark 111 and 500 rounds of Remington Golden Sabers and headed to the range. All went well for about 200 rounds then I got a small blast of gas on my cheek. I looked at the gun and all seemed well, I challked it up to the unexplained. We shot a few more magazines without incident. Then it was my wife's friend turn, she pulled the trigger and I heard a strang pop sound and I could see the bolt locked back and smoke comming from out of the hand grips. The case head had blown off and the gas from that little .22 had blackened her hand and had blasted back to her eye. The rim was ripped off the case leaving the case walls sticking out of the chamber. We quickly flushed her eye out and cleaned her off, thank god there was was nothing seriously wrong with her. I have never in my 40 years of shooting & handloading had anything like this happen. You can bet that we will be wearing eye protection from now on. Great experience for a first time shooter!!!!!!!!!! Catfish |

I just read a article yesterday where ruger has been haveing all kinds of trouble out of a lot of their new guns that have been made in the last year. Several guns were hanging up, some were splitting cases and some had other troubles. I haven't heard of anything like this till I read this yesterday. Now you have had trouble so it looks like it might be so. Glad no one was hurt seriously..........Bigh Ronnie |

I don't know if it was the gun, ammo, or something I did. I'm taking it to the gunsmith first chance I get. I will let you all know what he says. Catfish |

Took the gun into my gunsmith today, he said to send it to the factory. He advised it should be a warrantee item and that they would be able to tell me what caused the problem and if it is safe to shoot. He said his guess was the ammo. Might take a while to get it back, I'll keep yall posted. Catfish |

Still have not had the chance to send it back. It has to go to the main fed ex building and that is a real pain for me to get to. I will send it back soon. Catfish |

I finally found a box to send the gun back in and did so on 11/15. I got it back today, thats what I call service! Ruger said they thought it might have been the ammo but they replaced the sear anyway. Ill give it a good try out this weekend. Plan on using CCI ammo from now on. It cost $69.00 to mail it to Ruger!!!! Michael Edited by Catfish, Nov 26 2012, 10:37 PM.
