I've got a buddy that wants to get his trigger pull down to 2 lbs. or close to it. I was wondering if any of you fellows knew if it could be done?

Most people will buy a after market drop in trigger. I know you can change out the sear and hammer to help it, but have never done it.

There are some drop in aftermarket triggers that are good units but they are pricey. You can also get the drop in parts like Thomas posted. In my area, there is a gunsmith that will just rework the existing trigger assembly and can get it sweet and crisp with no overtravel for around 40.00.

I may be the weird exception but I always am more accurate with a trigger that has a little play. I like taking up the slack and then making my squeeze on the trigger. Anybody else know what I am talking about or does that make me a freak. LOL

I get my best results from a trigger set exceptional light. I like to be looking thru my scope at the target and while I'm just beginning to squeese the trigger it's almost like the gun goes off accidentally...........Big Ronnie

Flatrock,
You are not a freak! You are describing a 2 stage trigger. This was the standard military triger for quite a while on bolt action rifles. It is still used in some military rifle competition on AR type rifles to this very day. Once a guy gets used to it, it is an enjoyable trigger to work with. My Persian Mauser (stock military 98 type) that was made in 1935 has one and I really like it. The above said, there is a big difference between a creepy trigger and a 2 stage trigger, however, if your tirgger is consistant, then just keep doing what you are doing. Good shooting to you.

Thanks for the replies !!

I did some research on the Internet then my buddy told me he was gonna take it to a gunsmith.

That got me to thinking about my ruger mark III. I checked the trigger pull with a jug of water and it was 4.7 lbs. I took my gun apart to polish the plunger, trigger bar, hammer and sear. It barely helped it so I'm gonna order me a trigger kit.

Now I know I can do it 'cause it took me two days to put it back together :D
