I don't know why, but I bought me a new 10/22 carbine. Any of you guy's use them to hunt with? I liked it because it's short. Are they dependable, accurate, and do they do better with certain brand of ammo.? I'm gonna put a red dot scope on it, with see-thru mounts. Just in case battery would die or something. I really like my Ruger mklll with the crimson trace grips. I was just wondering if these 10/22's were tuff, or just junk! I've got an old old Marlin 22 that I think needs to be retired. I've had to buy 3 different magazine tubes for it!! These ol mountain laurels will twist the tube and pull it out. You won't even know it's gone until you need it,lol! That's why I thought maybe the rotary clip might work Better, and bought me 1 extra.

Stingers are just a hair longer, more powder, Ruger actually advises not to shoot them in the 10/22, and sometimes you will feel the blowback come out of the reviever. That being said they are a mean 22 bullet. I usually use the solid tip minimags. The remington bulk pack at walmart are also not a bad bullet and are considerably cheaper than cci. One thing you will notice about cci bullets is that they have a moly coating on the bullet which helps keep your barrel clean and makes them more accurate.

The stingers will proly shoot half inch high or so. They are really hot little bullets. It might be to heavy to carry squirrel hunting but look into a Green Mountain .920 target barrel. You wanna talk tack driver. It will put bullets in the same hole at forty yards.

Never mind on the remington bullets. Ive never had problems before but the box I just bought will not shoot accurate and out the first forty shells five misfired.

Thats what happened with the Federal Bulk shells I bought!! Some shot great and some wasn't as loud as my grandson's cap pistol. You could hear the bullet hit the coon, but would not penetrate it. That almost would make a man look BAD!!!!!!!

I have looked all around for some mini mags. Guy at walmart said he was told the cci factory or warehouse burned down. Anybody heard anything about it.

My 10/22 is a 1991 model. Even when my hunting buddys have bought many more new ones since then, this is the only 22 that I have ever hunted with. It is still the most dependable rifle I know of. The only thing I've done is clean it regularly and changed scopes throughout the years. I have a Nikon 3x9x42 on it now.
I hunt by myself most of the time. So, without a "vine shaker" or someone to search the other side of the trees, I have to shoot alot more times in order to make squirrels move. Fact is I shoot at least 1000 shells a week ((that is 10 hunts a week)).
I have a huge stockpile of shells. My choice is Winchester 555 count. The Remingtons will fail to fire at least 10% of the time. The CCI are good shells but they are priced too high for me. 375 count is the same price as 555 Winchester's.

The rest of my post is merely my opinion----I hold the ammo manufacturer's partially responsible but the top managers at Bass Pro, Cabela's, Midway, should have planned accordingly. I mean, they are in business to support hunters. Take WalMart for instance, our local store gets 22 shell shipments every week. If they can get them surely the hunting supply stores can. If the stores run out and say they can't tell you when they may get any more, to me their top managers need to consult WalMart on how to provide to the customers. I have lost respect for those stores.

I wish that was the case here. Our Walmart doesnt have fifteen boxes of shells in all the calibers combined and most of those are bird shot or 410.
