I always use red dot scopes for coonhunting. I have not bought a regular scope in years! Just looking for some opinions on a decently priced scope that seems to hold it's zero, even in pretty rough conditions. I know most of the time, you get what you pay for!! But years ago, I bought a Tasco 4 power, That has stood up very well!! Since I don't deerhunt anymore, my oldest son has confiscated it. Looking for one to try at night. My eye's are not what they use to be!!! Thanks!

I have a barska on my 22. I bought it at a garage sale a couple years ago. Seems to hold up good. Never heard of it or seen one but it does the trick. I have had several cheap Walmart scopes never really had to much trouble with them.

Banjo Bill I use a 3.5X10 Vortex on my 22. I don't see very good anymore neither so I use something that helps my wore out eyes do a little better job.. I have used this scope for a good many years and have never had no trouble with it. I used it on my 300 mag. for several years and it held up on it good so I feel it will last a long time on the 22......Big Ronnie

I try my hardest not to do cheap, usually it will be cheap in more ways than one. With the money I spend replacing it and the initial out lay, I could have done it up right the first time. That said, I too hate spending big bucks on a .22 scope. One option, look for a good used one on ebay or gunbroker.com.

So far the red dot still works well for me! But it's not magnified, I have never used a scope at night before, and these mountain laurel will put a hurting on you and your rifle! I have been looking at some scopes with lighted crosshair. Just doing a little planning ahead.

Bill my scope that I have on my 300 weatherby has the lighted rectical on it. The last 15 minutes of the day I used to have trouble seeing the cross hairs but with this scope with the lighted cross hairs I have no trouble hunting till dark any longer. You just turn on the red dot and don;t worry about no cross hairs anymore. You can adjust the brightness of the red dot from dim to really bright to suit your eye. I got Machelle one scopes with the lighted cross hairs for my old 300 mag. that I gave her and she loves it also. I think one of these lighted cross hair scopes would work really well at night..........Big Ronnie

I've got a buddy that had a rather expensive night vision scope on one of those varmint guns.

Every thing was shades of green and you could see very good with it. It would probably work good for coon hunting.

Bill, if you have a pack mule you can use in those mountains you would need it because that weapon was hea.........vey.
