If you think about it the runt always has to struggle for everything he gets. Cause he's the smallest he is always last in line. I have a litter here that's 7 weeks old. And the runt is at least half the size. But as far as courage I think it's the bravest. |

Have heard that too. But I also have read where some really top breeders keep what's left after sell off. If they want a female they will keep the last one, so all that said the blood is the blood. Now if it is a sickly little feller then I would not keep it for me, or even try to sell it. the only way to know for sure wich is best is keep them all. |

I have heard the runt female are the best. But like Rick said you. You would have to keep them all to be sure. I have the runt female from Millie's litter at home, just in case. |

I have always heard that the runt makes the best dog. If this is true or not I have no idea but being a breeder we don't keep no runt for future purposes. We pick what pups we are keeping before the other ones go anywhere because I always like to keep a big strong looking pup with a big blocky head on it that might produce the same. When we do have a litter with a runt it is most always picked by someone that wants the runt above the others. We had a man from Wyo. to drive down and pick up the runt out of a litter and didn't want anything else. He was a state trapper. He trained this runt to back track coyotes back to their den holes after he had shot them. Once the runt had back tracked the coyote to the den the runt would go down in the den holes and drag out the young coytoes one at the time for him to kill. This amazed me when I found out what he had trained this pup to do.............Big Ronnie |
