"When Duke Casimir Viesse de Marmont accepted the surrender of the Garimidian Royalists at Fort-de-Belliver and in turn entered the future capital of Montbeliard, he did not enter like a conqueror or as a liberator, but as a servant. He had carried the dirty banner of the victorious patriots that had toppled the royalists, his red coat stained with mud and darkened blood as he carried this heavy load. He was offered by his second in command thrice to take the banner and the Duke refused outright all three times, as many as twelve other men would beg for the tired noble to give them the heavy banner and twelve times more refused to drop the dirtied banner. As he walked into the prestigious White Rose Square, packed shoulder to shoulder with onlookers of the city's populace it is believed that the Duke of Marmont, a man who had led his men into battle after battle fell to his knees and proclaimed 'Ladies and gentlemen, honoured citizens of our newly born nation, I do not announce myself a tyrant as we have bled too long for you to be shackled by tyranny, I come here today to be your servant!'" - Jean-Pierre DeGrasse, Marcellican Historian Formal Name: The United Republic of Marcellique (also known as the Second Marcellican Republic) Common Name: Marcellique Demonym: Marcellican, Marcelliot Capital: Montbeliard Other Cities: Ciduad de Andalucia, New Marmont, Fouesnant Population: 163,976,000 GDP: 5,616,889,931,000 GDPpC: $34,254 Currency: Marcellican Marcs Major Industries: Aerospace Engineering, Defense Industry Government: Oligarchial Republic (de jure) Unitary parliamentary federal republic Head of Government: Prime Minister (It takes longer to become the Prime Minister and goes through a more vigorous process) Head of State: Premier-Consul - Note: The Premier-Consul is not the only Consul and is joined by a Second Consul (additionally voted by the people) and a Third Consul (who is elected by the Parliament and is usually from one of the Autonomous Republics/Foreign Departments but that is not the case). But the Premier-Consul has certain powers that the other Consuls do not have, in addition, the Premier-Consul has the right to intervene in the bickering of the States and Autonomous Republics that exist. Executive Branch: The Office of the Consulate of the Republic Legislative Branch: The Parliament - Upper House: Senate - Lower House: National Assembly Judicial Branch: Supreme Court of the Republic Articles of Governance: Constitution of the Marcellican Republic State Religion: N/A as the constitution calls for Marcellique to be secular National Anthem: Bloodied Banners of Montbeliard (lyrics coming soon) National Animal: Nord Wolf Other National Symbols: The axe, Josephine, The Dirty Banner The Axe: The decapitation of Duke Augustin Pierre Viesse by Casimite leader and former Grenadier François Amour with his axe is shown as the end of the corrupt vision of Marcellique and the start of the Marcellican Revolution (or Marcellican Civil War). To that end, The Axe is seen as a symbol of liberty and weapon against the tyrants and theocrats. Josephine: Josephine is the name used for the personification of Marcellique; also titled as Madame Liberty and is also the unofficial status as the national emblem of the United Republic. Most famous depicted in the portrait known as 'The March of the Children of Freedom', wear she is carrying the dirtied banner of the Duke of Marmont, standing over the dead clergymen and aristocrats that had infiltrated the dream and calls to all her countrymen to stand at arms. She is meant to represents the ideals of the Marcellican people, the ideals of Liberty and Reason. The Dirty Banner: It is one of the most iconic images of Marcellican history, the 'Dirty Banner' is the banner that Duke Casimir Viesse carried into Montbeliard, the banner has always been seen as large and cumbersone as it caused much strain to the victorious Casimir and such imagery would not be replicated til the Revolution, when the imagery of the 'Dirty Banner' is replaced by banners drenched in blood, as the revolutionaries had infact covered their flags and banners with the blood of the fallen royalists, priests and foreigners. It is to represent both the effort that it took to create the First Republic (and Marcellique in its entirety) and to represent where the Republic came from, the yoke of a noble house. National Motto: "We shall never bend our knee to tyrants or theocrats!" - Traditional Motto: "With Liberty, Many are One" - Unofficial Motto: "Liberty at all costs" Edited by Marcellique, Mar 25 2013, 12:26 PM.
