1. Think about your character's age and try to play it exactly how a mobster of that age would. A 21 year old gangster is not as wise as a 50 year old gangster but he is probably far more athletic. 2. as your character grows try to make him grow too. Try to give him set goals throughout different stages of life. Give him a personality and goals. WIll he be a loyal servant to his don who he loves alot or will he be ambitious and attempt too grow in power and seize any opportunity as they come 3. Remember just because someone is in your family doesn't mean you have to like them. inner family disputes happen all the time just make sure the other families don't really get news of these disputes. 4. Don't be too selfless, you are a mobster and making money is your priority if another mobster even if he is your friend is stepping on your toes... do something about it 5. but don't be too violent either. If you have a dispute try to settle it through a sit down first... if that doesn't work you can do 1 of two things... convince the godfather he is more harm than good and offer to take him out or take him out secretly without informing anyone and hope no one finds out. 6. its all about money and power. If your actions aren't giving you either of these things then you are probably playing your character wrong. 7. Don't make all the roleplay about crime. Have some fun every now and then. invite your friends out too the bar or play pool or watch the boxing fight or baseball game, etc Edited by Bookie, Apr 23 2014, 03:41 PM.

These are good tips. Just to add one more though, if the person reading this is a reader you should read the Godfather as it explains a lot. Or just watch the movie. Or just read page 28... |

I agree the godfather is a big inspiration to this forum but not just the godfather any mafia related book or movie is a great way to understand what I am trying to accomplish here. Famous mobsters you should probably read up about Lucky Luciano - he created the commission and he is the reason why the modern day american mafia is the way it is... Despite creating the mafia he is the reason why italian organize crime is alot more peaceful now than it was in the 1920s and 1930s Joe Masseria - he was luciano's boss and the boss of all bosses or so he crowned him self. He was the inspiration behind the character Vito Braso that I made. Luciano ended up betraying him and killing him because luciano noticed that having one big boss is a bad idea and his death is what led to the staring of the comission John Gotti - Very very powerful boss. Probably the most politically powerful boss of all time he had businesses everywhere and connections everywhere. His right hand man(I forget his name) was a very smart and brutal enforcer who did whatever gotti would tell him and his underboss(sammy the bull) ended up betraying gotti and snitching the FBI. Prior to this he was also known as the celebrity don because everyone knew he was the don and he didn't hide it like others and lived his life as if he was a celebrity The sopranos is another good look at the mafia and very accurate portrayal of how the new jersey mob works with a few good insight at the new york mob too. Like godfather it is a look at the mafia from the eyes of the boss Donnie Brasco is a good look at how crews work instead of the overall family. Goodfella and Casino is a good look as too how associates do their job instead of actual made men. A Bronx story is a look at the mafia from the eyes of an outsider and teenager who looks up too them Edited by Bookie, Apr 23 2014, 05:04 PM.
