![]() Zveri The Beasts of Belgorod Children of Dmitri
The Zveri bloodline has a comparatively short but incredibly violent history which has mirrored the social upheaval of the society which birthed them. Originating in central Russia at some time between 1885 and 1904, the Zveri are widely considered to be a brutal and degenerate bloodline little better than Caitiff. All Zveri are possessed of a psychotic, predatory instinct which is always present; like Brujah they are created with a closer bond to their Beast making them much more susceptible to frenzy; unlike Brujah however a Zveri's Beast is not some dormant caged animal waiting to escape - it has merged fully and is part of the same psyche as the 'normal' mind. The Zveri are uniformly monstrous in appearance, not in the way that Nosferatu are but rather in terms of sheer size and build; the embrace causes the rapid growth of muscle mass, skeletal structure as well as overall stature - the radical physical alterations the body of a childe undergoes in the first night mean that only a third of those embraced by the Zveri actually survive the process. History According to legend and hearsay the history of the Zveri begins with the capture of the psychopathic mass murderer Dmitri Antomov by a Tzimisce known only as Kirov; it is unclear precisely what happened to Antomov next and why however legend says that Kirov had Antomov embraced by one of his kindred servants and subjected him to a series of terrible experiments which unnaturally augmented his vampiric abilities, but gave him an incredible thirst for blood and violence. Unable to contain his creation any longer Antomov escaped Kirov into the central Russian wilderness where it is said he went on a barbaric murder spree. in 1905 the first records of Antomov's presence in kindred society appeared in Yekaterinburg where he was responsible for a series of violent murders and the diablerie of two of the city's most powerful Brujah elders; he also left a trail of unfortunate childer in his wake who were swiftly hunted down or fled to the wilderness. As a result of Antomov's legacy the Zveri are widely distrusted and persecuted by those few who have heard of them and feared by hose who haven't for their monstrous appearance and aggressive temperament. There are few Zveri in existence, not least because a third of childer die shortly after the embrace, but also because many Princes choose to declare blood hunts to eradicate them when even a small number appear in their domain. Despite this their numbers are steadily growing because they lack a specific culture and are seldom picky about who they embrace. Organisation Zveri are not an organised bloodline; they have no cultural history nor traditions to pass on from one generation to the next and because of the duality of their existence they struggle to live with other members of their own clan, much less anyone else for long. The Zveri are very animalistic in nature and when they do join groups they will seek to assert their dominance over it in much the same way a wolf might seek to be the alpha male of a pack; of course this makes them both unpopular and troublesome for established authority figures in organised society. That said Zveri do occasionally seek out companionship from a Zveri of the opposite gender since neither will try to assert dominance over the other (one being the alpha male and the other the alpha female). All Zveri have a strange and contradictory opinion of Dmitri Antomov; on the one hand they regard him with respect and awe, after all he was the first of their bloodline and remains an immense symbol of sheer strength and physical power. On the other hand they fear and hate him as a monster who has destroyed their chances at wider social acceptance - after all he has a nasty habit of eating the other Zveri he encounters. The same is true of all Zveri, when multiple Zveri of the same gender do meet they invariably eventually try to diablerise each other; it quite literally is survival of the fittest and Zveri take it to the point of cannibalism. Being a Zveri All Zveri have a composite personality, on the one hand they have their 'normal' personality which tends to be on the belligerent side and on the other they have one of pure unreasoning psychotic rage. Zveri are so close to their Beast that they succumb to it very easily, however they always take the fight response never the flight. The difference between this composite personality and the Kindred/Beast relationship is that the Beast and the Kindred have merged and submitting to the Beast means nothing more than submitting the their rage plain and simple. Once they succumb they seek to attack and destroy and will do only this; they will not flee nor try to feed (unless it is done as a means of combat) and as such Zveri are incredibly self-destructive and for the youngest Zveri succumbing is often fatal. Zveri may never raise their Appearance and Manipulation Attributes above 2 dots or their Charisma above 3. All Zveri start with 2 dots of Strength, Acute Senses (Smell and Sight) and may not learn any disciplines other than Potence, Celerity, Fortitude, Antomovism and Beshenstvo.
