Kamijo sat behind the podium at the pearly gates, sifting through the large, leather bound book for the names of the souls who wandered in the atrium. His new position required him to let in the souls whose names were written in the book. As for the others, they were to wait for their petition to be heard. Their cries and pleas were haunting and it was making him frightened that he would snap at them for begging for entrance. He felt for them, certainly, but it was not his place to hear their cases. The new brightlord didn't have much time to devote to the atrium or the gates and Kamijo was starting to realize that he himself never did, either. It was humbling, in a way. He felt completely insignificant now. The punishment was taking its toll on him. His once majestic and graceful stature was now just that of a broken man, sitting slumped over an old book like Scrooge, bitterness etched into his features. Did he hate Yoshiki? Perhaps. But it wasn't entirely the superior's fault that Kamijo was demoted to this position. Kamijo knew he wasn't a good leader. And yet, it was Yoshiki who had put him in the brightlord position in the first place. So much conflict in his head. He sighed and motioned forward the next soul. Perhaps he wouldn't spend eternity here and Yoshiki would release him from this personal hell. |
