In my long absence from Legion of Wii, I obtained an Xbox360. And despite my Nintendo fanboyism, I must say that I love it. Once certain game that caused this is Castle Crashers. Castle Crashers is a side-scrolling hack-n-slash game with some very good qualities. Made by Behemoth, the company that graced the Gamecube, XBLA, and the Intarwebz with Alien Hominid, Castle Crashers plays oyt like a typical 4 player team-up brawler, with great levels, a simple leveling system, excellent online play, a plethora of characters, weapons, and animal orbs, and that same hilarious gore you loved in Alien Hominid. The story of Castle Crashers is basic yet compelling: Your kingdom has come under attack by an evil sorcerer and his henchmen, and nabbes your sacred crystal and four princesses. From there, the king orders you to go after the sorcerer, which leads into an adventure across many different lands with many different enemies. The game has an overworld map in which you traverse across the great land, playing out each level. The controls are easy enough to pick up: A to jump, X for quick light attack, Y for heavy attack, and B fo your items. You can also hold down the right trigger to activate your magic, which you can upgrade to do various attacks, and the left is used to block. Players level up based on the amount of damage it takes, or number of hits, to kill an enemy. This way, when you're lower level, you level up faster since you have yo attack more, and as you level up, it becomes harder. Within your first 20 level-ups, you will be granted 2 skill points, which can be put into Strength, Magic, Defence, or Speed. After that, you only get one. Though a simple premis, this can lead to very interesting character builds, since your attack hanges based on how often or much you increase Strength, or your accuracy rate through Speed. However, the game isnt over once you beat the final boss. There are many weapons with different stats and attributes to discovers, animal orbs to collect, which are pets that give you different boosts like extra magic damage, or abilities like resistance to ice-based attacks. Not to mention, a staggering choice of characters to play and unlock, each with special and unique perks such as better defense, unblockable magic, and stronger item use. And the place that this game shines the most is its online, where you can team up with not one, not two, but THREE other friends on your quest to defeat the evil sorcerer. There is hardly any lag in games, and what's better than teaming up with some buddies for a good brawling time? 5/5 |
