Systems: 360/Wii/PS3/PC
Genre:Beat 'em up, exploration

Oooooooooookay, this review was written for the 360 version, although from what I've heard the Wii version is pretty much the same minus controls and graphics.

Story: (8/10)
This, along with Ultimate Spider-man are both games with original stories, and aren't based on the movies. In fact, they're set within the comic book world with several nod-offs to the comics (including a trivia quiz Dx). The game starts you off by ploping you in the middle of a symbiote(that black goo alien that venom is made out of) invasion on New York City. Some stuff happens, and you get to go back four days prior to the start of the chaos and see the events leading up to it. Venom shows up with his dastardly tricks and after Spider-man comes in contact with him, voila, he get's his wonderful parasitic, symbiote black suit back. Throughout the game you'll get to choose to take the good or evil path, which can net you one of four endings.

Gameplay: (7/10)
90% of this game is combat. Unlike the last Spider-man games, there are no races, or minigames. It's all about combat here. You have the original Red suit, as well as the symbiote black suit. Each has its own moves and abillities, and you can switch between the two at anytime. You can block, counter, shoot web to stun enemies, or grapple yourself towards them and unleash special attacks that use up the special bar. Your HP and Special bar both regenerate over time, and there aren't any items in the game to heal them. Combat takes place on the ground, air, and on the side of buildings. Each of these with their own set of moves. While ground combat and aerial combat both have a large amount of moves and are very enjoyable...wall combat is just horrible. Not only are there only 4 moves for each suit, the camera is terrible, and most of the time you won't be able to see what you're doing. The slightest nudge from an enemy can fling you from the wall, as the camera has a seizure trying to find it's place again. Throughout the game you'll gain experience which can be used to purchase additional moves for either suit you choose. You also collect...erm...collectibles, which are item's sitting on or around buildings. Everytime you collect a set amount, you go up a level, and you can then swing faster, and your HP and special bar both increase. These collectibles aren't hidden at all, but at least there's a good excuse. There are 2160 of them. As you make your way through the game you'll get story missions, as well optional one's that grant extra experience. Crime's below litter the streets, you can also stop down to break these up and gain even more experience. Despite the flaws, the constant upgrading of both suits and the new moves you get keep the game from getting stale too soon.

Graphics: (8/10)
Not the best looking game on the 360, but you can tell the developers took their time to make this game look beautiful. For how open the game is, I noticed no glitches to the visual's at any time. All the character model's are detailed and perfected, and I could pretty much stare at Black Cat all day. :pervert:

Audio: (9/10)
The soundtrack is amazing, the classic bam, pow of fist to face is there, and the whoosh of the wind and shooting of web as you swing across streets, sounds just like it should. The only reason this doesn't get a 10, is because the sound DID glitch out on me a couple times, with the volume of the sound effects going much lower than the music, and I had to reset the game to fix it. That...and...Spider-man's voice actor still doesn't fit him at all.

Control: (8/10)
Simple and easy. Almost your attacks and moves are positioned perfectly. However, as said before, during wall combat/climbing the camera can get out of control and you almost completely lose control sometimes. Also, you click the left stick to change suit's at anytime, and it's very easy to click it on accident mid-combo and end up screwing yourself up.

Although it is very fun, it's also very short, and there isn't a free roam like in past games, only a new game+. If you've enjoyed previous Spider-man games I definitely recommend this one, it's the best yet.

8/10

A most fabulous review.
The game looks really cool too, I've been thinking of buying it for awhile now.
Maybe I'll get it for my birthday in a couple of weeks! :o
