So I was at Gamestop today to fiddle with my Soul Silver Preorder and I noticed something different on the counter. Well it was the Monster Hunter Tri demo, boy was it my lucky day! Well I popped it in and I've played it for about an hour. Here are my first impressions for those that care. First of all, there are two quests, one rated one star, the other rated 3 stars. I did the one star quest and the game gives you a time limit of 20 minutes to complete the task. Basically, it's to hunt down this big raptor dude while mini raptor dudes claw at your ballsack. Ok so from here on out, these are my opinions of the game. I HAVE NEVER PLAYED A MONSTER HUNTER BEFORE. Ahem... So here we go :D First off, this game is gorgeous. I'm sure you know this already, but once you see it for yourself, you'll realize the screenshots are completely legit. Everything in the world around you really comes to life, from your character, to the monsters, to the environment, it looks like something on the Xbox 360 or PS3, no lies. That being said, some of the animation is a bit wonky, and there is some clipping here and there, but you'll be too busy gawking at the beautiful landscapes to care, and that's a good thing. However, there is one thing hindering you from fully enjoying the beauties of the world, and it happens to be my biggest gripe with the demo: the camera. Let me just put it out there, this is the worst camera I have ever dealt with in my video gaming career, period. It doesn't move. You must have your hand on the D-Pad at all times to constantly adjust the camera otherwise you'll quickly lose sight of what it is your targeting. You can press the C button to center it behind your back, but by the time it does, you'll already be turned in the other direction. With so much action on the screen, so many attacks to dodge, and so many things to be looking at, this camera is almost a dealbreaker, really, this game does a lot of things right, but the camera is just god awful. Maybe there is a learning curve to it? I don't know, but if a camera needs a learning curve then your doing it wrong. So back to the positives. The core gameplay is solid. I'll admit I was very shocked at how slow the combat can be if your not using the Sword + Shield or Bowgun. The Long Sword was the other weapon I tried and boy was it slow D: It's not a bad thing, just different, which is good. You can select from 7ish (can't remember the exact number) different weapons and they are all pretty unique. I went with the Sword and Shield after my try with the Long Sword and found it pretty decent. The game definitely has a learning curve though, especially for someone new to the series. I expected to be done with the quest in about 10 minutes, especially when the game gave me a 20 minute time limit. Boy was I wrong D: First round I ran out of time, and when I finally beat it, it took me 15 minutes. I guess your probably saying to yourself "lol noob", but it was pretty surprising to me when I first tried it. I did enjoy the combat though for the most part, although aiming was rather difficult to do, partially because of the camera. I should note that the demo only offers one control type: a Wii-Mote + Nunchuck combo that DOES include some waggle, but it worked well for the most part. Overall, a good game severely hindered by it's camera. Seriously, if it weren't for the online promised in the final version, I would suggest staying away from this game for that reason alone. However, it does seem as though the online should be good, the core game is a lot of fun, and it looks downright gorgeous. I'll be picking it up if people here promise to play it D: tl;dr version: Camera sucks, looks awesome, core game is good, play it for online |

It does have a learning curve LH, I played the game for longer than that and the camera grows on you, after a while you will forget you are controlling it and for some parts it will be even helpful as it gives you a full 360 view of your sorroundings. As for the weapons longsword sucks when you first use it but soon you learn how useful it actually is, does way more damage and is just really good, but again a pretty steep learning curve |

I was doing the same thing putting cash on my soul silver and came across it its just like the psp version but i hate that the great sword is so freaking slow. I got owned by the boss that fly's i forgot its name. I only used the sword and shield and the long sword tho i liked it tho it was pretty cool. |
