Nintendo today has announced the Nintendo 3DS, not another redesign but a brand new successor to the Nintendo DS. Some features include 3D technology without the use of 3D glasses. Following sources has these extra tidbits: Nikkei - control stick instead of dpad - rumble/force-feedback - improved wireless speed and battery life - accelerometer - screen that is smaller than 4 inches - timing on the announcement could be related to decreased software releases - Nikkei expects release in second half of 2010 Yomiuri Shimbun - "it is believed that the system will use a Sharp 3D LCD panel." - this 3d tech is acheived by placing a small film on the screen, which is separated by a small space. The slight differences in the image creates the 3d effect Mainichi Shimbun - software developers have been briefed on the system - third party software at launch It is being speculated that the new gen of Pokemon games will be for 3DS as well, a few months back Gamefreak was hiring 3D modelers so I wouldn't be surprised. Gamefreak, to my knowledge, has never made a 3D pokemon game, it's always been by another company. Its also being speculated that it will be as powerful as a gamecube and made to be designed like gamecube games, so basically a portable gamecube. Also rumored is that the dual screens will be so close together that they're practically just one giant screen. Should be released by the end of fiscal year of march 2011. Your thoughts? |
