I was interested in biocock but after hearing more of what the actual gameplay is like and the story, my interest started taking a massive dive.

I am currently playing through some of my backlog games and my usual multiplayer games which consist of X-Com, chivalry, bit trip runner 2, brutal legends, afterfall insanity, magic 2013 and SFIV, also going to pick back up darksiders 2 after I beat some of those
What about it sounds unappealing to you?

Runner2 <3 shit is fucking amazing. I'm replaying it on Easy and Medium difficulties so I can get 100% because I love it that much.

As far as Bioshock Infinite goes, I'm really Ehhhh on the first game. It's by no means bad in anyway, I just didn't get immersed in it like a lot of people did. I heard 2 was even more Ehhhh even though the gameplay was slightly improved.

But with Infinite, it has my interest mostly due to the art style. The game looks really beautiful. Thankfully I'm able to download a 1-hour free trial on the PS3, so I'm doing so right now! I'll be able to post my own opinion in the next day or so.

I had a pretty similar experience to Rick, the first bioshock was ok and I could see how the atmosphere and story could completely swallow you, but I knew the story and the plot twist because I took so long to play it and the gameplay alone can NOT be enough for that game.

As for bioshock infinite, yeah the game looks beautiful and some scenery is what makes me want to play just to see what there is, but the enemies are incredibly bullet spongey, the story is pretentious and full of plotholes, the gameplay is limited and just dull (Then again for me to enjoy a single player shooter, it has to have something special) and just the plot really grinds my gears from what I've heard, the more I hear the more I don't want to play it, there are very few time travel/alternate universes stories that I enjoy

One example of lore regarding that topic that I think did it right is back to the future, not only because it addresses all the possible paradoxes in actual time travel theory, but also it proves how little we know of the topic by the doctor being wrong in some situations or just being I DUNNO SHIT WILL EXPLODE I GUESS! It also is very tongue in cheek which is highly appreciated.

On the other hand we have a movie which I think is HIGHLY overrated and Rick sure as fuck has heard me complain about it. Looper, that movie made me so fucking angry at it's complete disregard for the actual theory of time travel and anything regarding the information we currently have about it.

Tl;dr I think that type of plot is complicated to do right, bioshock certainly does NOT nail it, it's not humorous, from the game design viewpoint it has some abysmal flaws (Subjective of course, I'm sure some people wouldn't mind the things that irk me) and for the massive budget it had, I do believe it's a very 'Meh' Product

XD If you didn't bring up Looper sir I was about to post a trollface and a Looper poster.

But yeah I can see how that stuff sounds lame, especially enemies being spongey, fuck that noise, I hate that in games. That's one reason I absolutely hate Operation Raccoon City.

And sir, does 1999 Mode in the game interest you at all?

XD you would you sick fuck!

I had no idea the enemies in 'Coon city were bullet spongy, why would they ever do that?

I like what they did in theory with some things that should just be part of games in general like having the navigation arrow be removed (Don't get me wrong, if I am just trying to plow through a game I will spam that fucker to waste as little time as possible, but if you are trying to just play the game I think it takes away massively to even have the option) or making it so if you don't have money for respawns they just take you to the main menu since that is akin to having lives and continues.

Which I must say, as a kid I would always dread limited continues but at the same time it was a challenge and having an extra continue when you are at the last level is one of the best feelings I can remember having while playing videogames, having grown up and losing both lives and continues, I must say I do miss them and wish they would make a comeback, perhaps not in the format of having them for a lengthy rpg or anything, but I think games like bastion handled it pretty damn well.

All that being said, the big flaw about the difficulty increase is that it's a game where the actual combat is not the main selling point of the game, it's not devil may cry or ninja gaiden so making the player take ludicrous amounts of damage whilst removing ammo in a game where enemies are bullet spongy just sounds like what people often call 'artificial difficulty'. I think it would've been way way more interesting if the enemies had actually better AI or there were different types of enemies (Which I also heard there's not a very good variety)

Also I would like to ask, how do you guys feel about boss battles? They are one of my favorite parts in games and I always look forward to that final boss battle in a game, but apparently people don't like them much and developers claim they don't fit their storytelling (Which I believe is bullshit) so it's like they are a dying features ;_;

Boss battles are the best parts about a lot of games! They're the high points of a lot of stories and what keep 40 hour JRPGs from getting too dull.
They also keep the action from getting tedious in beat em ups and hack and slash games.
The lack of boss battles in favor of overwhelming hoards of bullet sponge enemies is what wrecked Uncharted 3 for me.

Nintendo is still good for having some interesting boss battles in their games, but a lot of their games now make them pathetically easy. (I'm looking at you, Twilight Princess)

I think boss battles is a concept in video games that we should never lose.

Not all games need them naturally, such as say, The Walking Dead (or even it's FPS counterpart) but at the same time, it saddens me more and more each time I hear about some dudebro AAA game that lacks a final boss. I hear one of the Gears of War (maybe more?) ends the game with a horde battle, and not a boss battle. When a game is dealing with a monster/alien race as creative as that, there's no excuse to not have some huge ass beast that you gotta deal with.

Although at the same time, some people need to step up boss battles and find ways to make them fresh and fun. Nintendo has done good for the most part with bosses. Sure some of them are easy (and practically all only require 3 hits :P) but at least they're mostly all different and incorporate some cool element to them. Sure you fought Bowser three times the exact same way in SM64, but at least there was more than just him!

And like right now, I'm playing through Darksiders II, and compared to the first game most of the bosses suck (the game is still great though and over all better than the first gameplay wise :3) there are a couple that require some strategic planning and use of items (such as your death grip or even your gun) but most of them is just spam attack them till they're dead and keep dodging. You do taht shit in normal fights :|.

Man that's such a disappointment to hear, I liked the bosses in the first darksiders and I remember fighting the first one in darksiders 2 and going "Ehhh hopefully this gets better later on"
