Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

Nintendo Wii
Mario vs. Sonic? What?! Is that even possible?! Asking someone this question ten years ago would probably result in a "Never in a million years!" But they've finally done it, pitting Mario vs. Sonic together in a game, with a bunch of the other characters mixed in. Amy vs. Daisy, Peach vs. Blaze, or even find out who's the better boss, Bowser or Eggman? What could be better than a plumber facing off against a hedgehog in Beijing anyway?

Not much to say about the Story, just two series' characters duking it out for the gold medal in the 2008 Olympic games.

Gameplay: 10/10

Run, swim, jump, throw, shoot: Just a few methods of playing in the games. Play a bunch of minigames and learn more about the Olympic games, or even about Beijing where they will be held in 2008. Learn a bit when you're having fun with the many minigames held in the trivia zone, and you'll be having a blast before you even know it!

Controls: 9.5/10

Controls may be a little shaky at times (No pun intended), and it will take a bit of time to figure out what you're doing. If you have a lot of patience, you'll get it eventually. Once you get to know what you're doing, you'll enjoy it.

Sound: 10/10

Is sound even really that important? Of course it is! The default music in trivia zone even got me humming along with it after a few minutes. Of course, that's not all there is, listen to your old favorites, or even just the sound effects in the regular events. If you're like me, you usually listen to music on your computer when playing games, but this game made me take them off and actually listen to the game, which is a rare sight indeed. Sure, you might not like the sound that much, and I may even be over exaggerating, but it still receives a 10, listening to your old favorites is well worth it to listen.

Graphics: 10/10

Gotta say, first thing I was most impressed with in this game (aside from the Mario vs. Sonic deal) was the graphics. Not life-like or anything, but when you look at games on the Wii, graphics aren't their first priority. To be honest, I don't really care about graphics in games, as long as I can see what I'm doing, and I'm not a dot on the screen not knowing which way is up, I'm satisfied. But this game just blew me away, I looked and saw what I could have never imagined on the Wii console.

Nothing more to say about graphics, 10/10 for anything that could be on the Wii.

Challenge: 10/10

If there was the ability to rate something over 10, this would be the category that would get it. There's always a new challenge every corner you turn, always someone out there better than you, and a good reason to practice and get to the top. Sure, there's going to be something that you're not great at, but with a little (lot) of practice, you'll get good at it, and have a fighting chance against some of the best. Even the computer is a really good challenge, but not impossible to beat; unlike many of the other games, the computer won't always have the edge, and you'll be able to surpass them. But you'll still have to challenge yourself to reach new heights, you never know what you're fully capable of.

Play time: N/A

This is where the verdict can change, this game can be completely in any amount of time, depending on the player. If you're going for all gold medals, it will take you quite a bit of time. If you're going through it just to get to the end and not take the challenge to go for the gold, it'll take a matter of hours. Really depends on what type of player you are, but I know that there are many out there who will be playing this game for quite a long time.

Replay Value: 10/10

If you don't replay the game at all, you've missed the entire point, and the game is hardly even fun anymore. Go for the gold, you'll never get them all on your first attempt at it, so keep trying, and whatever you do, never give up. And just think of the bragging rights you'll have if you do get all the golds! Even with multiplayer mode, it's quite enjoyable. Most multiplayer games have one really amazing players competing with others who aren't as good. Anyone can find their "zone" in this game, whichever game you're best at. Never give up, trust your instincts! ...alright, wrong game, but still, it's an amazing game, and you'll love it after a few tries.

Pros:
Mario Series vs. Sonic Series
Bring your own Miis in and show the big kids who's the boss
Very Challenging
Gives you a workout

Cons:
So... tiring...

Rent or Buy: Buy it, don't bother renting it, you'll just want more. Sure, you can rent it if you really want to, but this is an amazing game, and I think that if you try to buy it, you'll be thoroughly pleased in your choice.

In conclusion:

This is one of the greatest sports games that I've ever played, and if you're a fan of them, you'll love this one. Mario duking it off against Sonic, what more could you want?

Citius, Altius, Fortius.
Faster, Higher, Stronger.
