The World Ends With You
Nintendo DS
Action/Adventure/RPG

Story

Allright, let me start off with the Story...

Allright, you play as Neku, an antisocial, spiky-haired, arrogant brat with amnesia, 15-year-old that finds himself invisible in the middle of Shibuya, an extremely crowded shopping district in Tokyo. To make matters worse, he receives a text message telling him to get to another part of town, or face erasure.

Anyways, as you progress through the story you meet a nice cast of heroes (Players) and villains (Reapers)

Your enemy is called noise, which you cannot defeat unless you have a partner, which you have to form a pact, and you meet 3 different/unique parters throughout the game.

Shiki, your early partner throughout the story.

You are a Player in the game, you have 1 week (7 days) to defeat the gamemaster and get out of the game, or you will face erasure by the Reapers....I don't want to spoil much for you, so that's all I'll say.

GAMEPLAY

OMG, this is where it's at, be amazed by the most unique fighting system you've ever touched.

The gameplay in every-bit as unique as the presentation, because it puts you in control of two characters at once during battles. While your main character can normally be controlled with both the stylus and the directional pad, things change drastically during battles. While facing those, the lower screen is used to control all of Neku's actions, allowing him to move around and attack enemies by performing simple motions, like tap, drag, slash, and screaming into your mic.

You control you're partner by using the A,B,X and Y button as he'she appears on the top screen. There is also a thing called a "Pluck" which is a lime-green orb that transfers between the two characters fighting to get more damage at the end of your combo. You can't move with your second character, only dodge/attack.

What you use for attacks in the game are "pins". There are over 300 different pins (attacks). You start off only getting to carry 2 pins at a time, then 6 later on. Pins inlude slashing attacks, teleporting, Shooting lightning, healing, and much more.

Basic fight in The World Ends with You (WEWY)

Allright, every RPG game has some super beastly, flash attack...which are called Fusion attacks in this game.

How to get Fusion attacks are hard to explain, I won't get into that. But, each partner has 3 different levels of Fusion attacks, each growing in power. Basically, you and your partner cover up both screens kicking major ass.

Shiki's level 2 fusion attack. ...with Mr. Mew.

Allright, Shibuya is centered around fashion. Each dstric has a fashion of it's own, which can get your attack doubled if your wearing the right threads in the right place, or halved. It's not Platearmor and leather...it's ACTUAL CLOTHE like tight pants, skirts, glasses and backpacks.

GRAPHICS
64-BIT
Not much to explain, they can look a little choppy at times, but the game runs smoothly and at a nice pace, no lagging in the middle of a tense battle.

The cutscenes are probably the best the DS can offer, and it has some great voice acting to.

My review.

Story=9.5
The story will keep you hooked as soon as you pick it up, but it has it's corny moments.

Gameplay=10
AMAZING, I love how they made the battle system so unique, so fresh and there is always more attacks to uncover, using both screens worked out great!

Graphics=9
Allright, though during close ups, look choppy at times.
Oh, the cutscenes are amazing, nice voice-acting and very well done between the screens.

OVERALL REVIEW
9.5
