Memory leak / crashing issues

I've been back and forth in emails with Turbine tech support to get to the cause of the problem with game crashing/closing randomly, happening more frequently the more people there are in a certain area. I had a LOT of problems with it during the Winterstock weekend.
This is the last email they sent me and so far, things look good. Fingers remain crossed but I'm optimistic at this point, as last night LOTRO's memory usage was fluctuating between 1.3 - 1.5 gigs used, which was a lot better than climbing up to 2.4 gigs used and then crashing.

------------------------------------
For 64bit systems the game was not updated to be fully 64bit but it is 'large address aware' meaning that it can 'see' systems with above 3.5GB of memory (bear in mind that Windows also 'stacks' the video card memory in the pool of addressable memory for apps) so it can often use a significant portion over time, though some of the excess is 'reserve' unused memory that Windows just does not mark as cleared from the app. (You can use a third party memory "cleaner" to free up some of that memory but they tend to make the system unstable.)

Regarding the plugins we would recommend checking with the plugin authors to ensure that the latest versions are being used. LUA based plugins being third party though are not supported so their use is an 'at your own risk' situation, if the games performance/stability is negatively affected and plugins are being used our recommendation is to try updating the plugin but remove it if there is a significant reduction in issues without it.

( Note : ** I did NOT update my plugins but I did follow the rest of the email's instructions**)

These steps below do reduce the games system usage 'footprint' somewhat and may also help:

To start open the userpreferences file found in your Documents > The Lord of the Rings Online folder and within that file under the section titled [Display] make the following edits:

Change AllowFakeFullScreen=True to False
Change SyncToRefresh=False to True
Verify that the number following Resolution= matches your current Windows desktop resolution
Change Antialiasing= to Disabled if set to 2x/4x etc. (e.g. Antialiasing=Disabled )
Change AllowDesktopCompositing=False to True
Under the section titled [Troubleshooting] change the MaximumFrameRate option to 57
(e.g. MaximumFrameRate=57 )

After making those edits close out of the file choosing yes when prompted to save changes. After making those edits outside of the game, log in as far as character select to make these additional adjustments from the options menu:

(Note that these added changes will require one more game restart so they can be applied, saved and enabled at start.)

Under ADV Graphics disable the Player Mesh Combining setting
Lower the Player Crowd Quality Control slider to 0
Under Audio make sure the selected sound playback setting is using "Generic Software on.."
Also under Audio ensure that Use EAX is disabled.
Under the Troubleshoot section lower the Engine Speed setting to Medium*
(* For initial testing use Medium. Increase this later to test as well but try to leave it at Medium long enough to note any changes.)

Thank you,
The Turbine Technical Support Team
