Ok, rant time... I haven't had my current gen console or handheld for very long, but one thing I have noticed is how a lot of current gen games have been dummed down, and I think the Y (and Wii!) generation is at fault. Here are a few observations: Forza 3: Braking assist? Learn how to use the Left Trigger! Steering assist? Learn how to use the Left thumbstick! REWIND? Learn how to fucking drive or don't play... Oblivion: Say I am level 6 and I accidently find myself in the Dungeon of Ultimate Ass-kicking. So it SCALES the enemies and challenges to my current level? PLUS, there is a bed in the dungeon that lets me sleep, recover and level-up in while there are enemies just down the tunnel. I should have been murdered in my sleep and had my ass handed to me on a plate... Final Fantasy XIII: Auto attack? WTF? How about learning the Enemies weaknesses and choosing the right ability based on that! Paradigm Shift? It used to be called thinking your battle strategy through and knowing when to defend and heal, and knowing when to press the attack. Only being able to control your party leader with the other members on auto really sucks too. And RETRY! Fuck that shit! learn how to save the game people... Most FPS's: Wow, that was a tough fight! I haven't got much ammo left. I wonder if there is any around this corn... HOLY SHIT! Now I'm in trouble. Oh I am dead... Oh well, I'll just reload and try and finish that first fight using less ammo so I can at least have some chance when I go around that corner again. WTF? It saved me here! With no ammo! And there is only one save file? How about you let ME choose when to save. I will remember to save my games, and if I don't, then I am to blame, so don't autsave me at a point I am not ready to tackle yet... Ok. I am done. For now... |

BECK IN MAH DAI! The Forza one I get since real race cars have TSC and ABS, but Rewind I agree on. I also believe TSC and ABS are more dangerous than not having them, and people should be taught to brake and accelerate properly. Oblivion's scaling shit me. I remember sneaking onto the pirate ship in the Imperial City at level 6, sneaking on without detection, and my reward was an onion and 50 gold. If I had done the same at Level 20, the bounty would have increased significantly, but the act itself would have been the same. And the FPS thing is definitely the result of attention deficiency. BC2's checkpoint system was actually pretty good like that, but you never really drop to low enough ammo for it to matter. |

Ninja Gaiden Sigma did my head in with its policy of no checkpoints, if you didn't save then you were stuffed in having to go through the whole level again. I learnt the hard way to save whenever icould, but even then, i remember dying countless times in boss fights, and being forced to start back mid level! I guess it's a matter of striking the right balance with checkpoints and the like. Area 51 made ammo scarce halfway through, but it added to the experience, rather than make it unplayable. |

Honestly, I'm a fan of accessibility within limits. To sort of counteract the Forza thing, let's shift onto another game released around the same time - DiRT 2. Dirt also has the rewind functionality, but unlike Forza, it's always limited - you can never have unlimited rewinds, so that helps push you to actually learn how to drive somewhat effectively. This also applies with difficulty, as when you up the difficulty - the rewards become greater, but the game demands more of you, and limits further the amount of times you can rewind. |

Dont like an assist? Dont. Use. It. This is like old people bitching that there is too much sex and violence on TV. Use your remote and change the channel if you dont like it. Sure, when a game doesnt offer you the option to turn off any assists that you dont want its a pain in the ass, but just because you dont like it and think it shouldnt be in there doesnt mean devs should leave it out. Auto-saving is necessay for me....because I get sucked in to games and can sit there playing for hours without realising it. If there is manual save only....then Im fucked if something happens. Braking Assist, Steering Assist and the like in Forza 3 helps younger kids and people who arent used to the controls to get used to them and as they gain more confidence in driving they can turn them off gradually for more of a challenge. Its like saying "Fuck Novice and Normal settings in FPS, we should only have the Hard/Veteren/Insane settings because the others arent challenging" Forcing people to have the assists is something I hate, but if you have to option to turn it Off....you have nothing to complain about. |

I'm not talking about TSC and ABS Jason. I'm talking about "I can drink my Latte in my left hand while holding down the Right Trigger with my right hand, and let the steering and braking assists do the rest."
Honestly, I'm not. If the game is hard, it was meant to be. You should take the time to learn it, or play something else...
Yeah, I know. I'm a grumpy old man. It just shits me that there are actually people out there who buy a game touted as the most realistic driving simulator ever made, but they can't be bothered using more than one hand to play it. |

The problem is that most games (Edit: I mean 'harder' games, not all games) are hard AND cheap. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is one of the few games that got the balance right, but most of them are just annoying. Nobody enjoys playing the same part over and over again 50 times. Thats what pissed me off most about Veteran in MW2. There were two missions where the Auto Save was completely fucked up and you had to play it through so many fucking times, because apparently if you didnt do the right things....the game wouldn't Autosave and you had to begin again. Im all for autosaving and checkpoints, but do them right....Halo 3 and MW2 were the biggest offenders in my book |

Arcade racer, so the point is moot. CT, I agree on the choice, but there should be a reward for doing it on a higher difficulty besides GS. I'll use NHL as an example. If you buy an upgrade pack, and use it in MP, an asterix or mark should appear to highlight the fact that you've taken the easy road. To use Forza as an example, you should be able to filter game searches for people using the same level as yourself. I think I might be the only retard who uses the clutch, but the few times I've played against people other than you guys, I get people with all assists and auto. Forza SP did this well, as I managed to get all the cars I needed because I earned more money playing full expert, even though I didn't win every race. |

One I forgot to say earlier: Tekken 6: All characters available from the start? WTF? Oh you keep loosing online because everyone uses ___ character and ___ character who are only unlockable if you actually play through most of the game to unlock them. I can't be bothered and it's so unfair! Well boo-hoo to you... |
