I mean the writing wasn't great, so it's not all Romita's fault. It's just how it's written, then again, I don't read many normal comics (mostly Graphic Novels) nowadays.
Oh you do do you? Do you like to sip tea and wear a monocle while doing so? :P

This was exactly the problem with Sandman, Gaiman spent the whole time going "oh look how smart I am with my numerous literary references, and look how smart you guys are for reading this". Sometimes comics need to just be entertaining fantasy and that is essentially what Millar has always produced. Have you actually read Kick Ass? Because the writing in that was not what a critic would call "brilliant", it was the shock of reading something we've never read before that gave the story momentum.

Hah.

Yeah because those normal comics are only for the retarded masses, and you're not intelligent unless you read the 'Graphic Novels' with deep and complicated themes and which explore the philosophical underpinnings of our society.

Usually when you hear people talk like that....they're the wannabe's who do it just to come across as cool and intellectual...when they really are just posers =P

even the grimy bits of Sandman, Watchmen, V for Vendetta or the Sin City series had interesting dialogue, I didn't find that in Nemesis. And while Kick-Ass wasn't an intellectual's wet dream it had a lot of heart which Nemesis lacks, I can't judge Nemesis as a series yet, but issue 1 was a disappointment (and I might add that issue 1 of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. 2 was a bit of a disappointment).

@Clonetrooper:

I'm using the term Graphic Novel as a wider term as well, meaning Limited series such as the Losers (the move of which comes out soon), Red (another movie coming out this year), The Ultimates, and a Batman: The Killing Joke. I don't have the money or the interest to invest in continuing series such as Spider-Man or X-Men (although I used to be obsessed with both).

And also, Kick-Ass didn't have any of the full on psychological underpinnings that Watchmen, Sandman or V for Vendetta had, and neither did League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but when they are collected together they are called graphic novels.

Nothing wrong with calling them comic books. "Graphic novel" was coined in my eyes to remove the immature stigma surrounding the word "comic book". It's similar to David Cage calling Heavy Rain an "Interactive Entertainment Experience". It makes him sound like a wank, and you'd only use it if you submit to the stigma surrounding the words "video game".

Also, I've always called a series of comics put together a "trade"...
