Just watched 'Ed Wood' the Tim Burton directed movie about one of the worst movie producers/directors of all time - Edward D. Wood Jr. The movie focuses on three of Wood's productions: - Glen or Glenda (transvestite biopic ) - Bride of the Atom (standard trashy monster pulp flic) - Plan 9 from Outer Space (Baptist Church funded, pulp horror flic in which aliens try to use the Earth's dead to punish the planet for the weapon they might create in the future) Having watched two of these movies (Glen/Glenda + Plan 9) I found the Burton film extremely hilarious. Without any prior knowledge of these movies, 'Ed Wood' loses most of its humour but still presents an engaging storyline about a desperate, talentless director (Ed Wood) and the friendship he forms with a drugged out, washed out movie star (Bela Lugosi). One moment that I think we can all appreciate is when Sarah Jessica Parker's character is shocked at her description in a review and responds with the comment: "Do I really have a face like a horse?" XD |

Henry of the Orient. I watched it because it had Peter Sellers in it, and he didn't disappoint. Even having seen him in films as varied as Lolita, The Party, and The Pink Panther the character he portrayed (Henry) was still unfamiliar. However, it turns out that the focus of this movie is not on Henry but on two young girls who decide to playfully stalk him after one of them develops an obsession with him. This is the 60s equivalent of a chick flick but for some reason I didn't hate it. It was probably the fact that it had a story line that mattered as well as some solid acting performances (or it could be that my balls are missing?). |
