Got done with Up. Nothing short of fucking amazing. Then again, that is Pixar for you.

I love that it mixes in a story that's surprisingly mature, but is well told enough that adults will get the subtlety, and the kids will laugh at all the gags. And that opening 10 minutes? Powerful stuff. But after that...I found that the story kinda lacked something.

That being said, I kinda worry about the next couple of films from Pixar. Not that I fear Toy Story 3 will be bad, but after Wall-E and Up, I'm kinda worried that it won't be as good as those two. All my fears about a bad Pixar film go to the film to be released after TS3, Cars 2, a film THAT SHOULD NOT EXIST.

The first 10 minutes is brilliant stuff. Hell, that 5 minute montage by itself was one of my favourite films of 2009. Utterly amazing. I'll keep on going back to that moment when Cars 2 inevitably leaves a foul taste in my mouth.

The only reason Cars 2 exists at all is because Cars 1 was such a huge merchandising success. We're still regularly selling Cars...uh...cars whilst the latest Hollywood blockbuster merchandise gets regularly ignored.
What are the odds that Pixar were strongarmed into doing this movie (possibly in exchange for doing Up and/or Wall-E)?

Of course. Still shouldn't exist.

Cars was made sans Disney? So no exploitation money to prop you up while you make the project you actually WANT to.

Dexter is one of my favourite shows and I heard during the week that Michael C Hall has been receiving treatment for Hodgkins Lymphona. Here's hoping all goes well and he's back on our screens later this year.

Something else I have in common with Dexter. Besides the corpses of course...

Got done with a couple of things. First, Tyson - a film all about Mike Tyson (who'd a thunk?). It's mostly 70 minutes of Tyson talking about his life and his career, mixed in with plenty of archival clips of Tyson. This part is the most interesting of the movie, because it shows just how much of a BEAST Tyson was back in the day, and also shows a lot of parallels between his life and the life of Ali's.

It's also very frank, which is great, and he's very apologetic at times - in particular regarding the Holyfield rematch and the McBride fight. The only thing that sucks about the film is that it tries to be slightly more artsy by including splitscreen effects and almost frequently has clips talking over one another, which is annoying enough to listen to, especially when Tyson is hard enough to listen to already.

Word of advice, put on the subtitle track - if you know how Tyson speaks, you'll know why.

As well as that, I got done with the new Family Guy Star Wars special "Something Something Something Darkside". Does a good job in parodying the Empire Strikes Back story in around an hour, but didn't find it outright hilarious. Maybe it's because I haven't watched Family Guy in a while, I don't know. That being said, there are a few great moments though, including some great shots at Fox and at Seth Green's career.

Saw Sherlock Holmes and must admit i was surprised at the way Guy Ritchie took the myths and history of Sherlock and just ran with it. Enjoyed it thouroughly, Downey Jr was very good, and all in all the overall acting and action was fairly good. Watched Underworld 3 Rise of the Lycans last night too, and liked it, therefore forcing me to ponder why it got such bad critical acclaim and baggers of the film. I enjoyed the backstory and the history of how the blood feud began with the Vampires and the Lycans.

Haven't seen 3 since number 2 was dreadful. Besides the naked Kate Beckinsale scenes of course...

Personally, that movie fouled up on me by taking itself so goddamn seriously.
At least Bill Nighy had the audacity to camp things up a bit amidst the brooding and mass staring into distance that made up the rest of the movie.

If you want good werewolf on vampire action, I've heard good things about the BBC series Being Human.

Tonight i'll be watching Roger Federer crush Lleyton Hewitt in the Australian open.
I'm not a fan of tennis but i hate Lleyton Hewitt and his fat ego.
