I just finished The Naked Husband by Mark D'Arbanville. It's written from the point of view of a married man who has an affair and how it changes his life and goes in depth into his emotions and feelings. It's pretty deep at times. Now reading The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory. She is the same author who wrote The Other Boleyn Girl. This one the story focuses on Mary Queen of Scots. I'm not far enough into it to give a proper judgement so far, but Philippa has a great writing style that captivated me all the way through The Other Boleyn Girl and I really enjoy period novels, so I think this is going to be a winner. |

I'm re-reading High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. I'm up to the last 80 pages so I should be done soon. My uncle just gave me some old Doctor Who books so I'll start on them next. I might read The Naked Husband. Is it good, melonqueen? |

I just finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy....its was brlliant, I never thought I'd like anything that Oprah recommends, but I loved it. It is by no means a happy book...while there are moments of Light during this book, most of it is quite dark harsh and can be quite heartbreaking as well. Its the story of a man and his boy travelling across a broken America in the aftermath of a Nuclear Apocalypse...(I'm assuming it was Nuclear, hence all the ash...but after an apocalyptic event none the less) and they are heading towards the coast, and to the south, to escape the Winter. The characters names are never mentioned, there is only one name in the book, that of an old man they meet, but he makes you doubt that is his name. It provides a chilling picture of a world where everything we have ever held dear has been stripped away from us, a world where hope is dying, along with everything else..its stripped away all the good of humanity and left the Darkside there. I read it because the Fallout 3 development team read it and are using it as inspiration/source for their Fallout world...and I can see why after reading it. It's been a long time since a book has gripped me so much and actually made me emotionally invested in a pair of characters that have no name. I think I might have to read some of McCarthy's other works. |

Look, I think it is. I've read it twice now and both times I really got caught up in reading it. I find it to be quite emotional (not in a bad way) and raw... A very good read. |

Thanks for the recommendation, melonqueen. It takes me way too long to pick out books and when I get home I wonder why I borrowed them all. It does annoy me that I've already finished all the comics they had and now I'll have to wait until they get more funding before they buy new ones. They have at least 50 dolly/girlfriend magazines. It gives me the shits. |

Ah Dolly and Girlfriend... The only good thing about them is the how embarrassing pages and the sex advice they dish out to 12 year old girls

My sister used to buy them, they were hilarious! Once they had some old ones at my school fair and I bought them for her(was in grade six at the time) and they all wouldn't belive they were for her  I liked the embrassing sex advice that was funny but sick as to what they suggested. Today was WIN! I borrowed The Naked Husband, bourght PMD EoD, a star trek game and some comics. |
