*SPOILER Warning* Star Trek XI *Do Not Enter*

Warning: Do not read the below if you do not know the ending of Star Trek XI and wish to see the movie

OK well heres my first impresions of Star Trek XI! (Being a trekkie and all :D )

The movie was presented well and the special fx were fresh and wowzers
The cliche`trade mark one liners did not sit well with me as they felt like they were mocking the orignal.

The storyline started off well but ended with the fact that Old Spock from the future being labled as the destructor of romulas in the future and the bad guy nuro being the destructor of Vulcan in the past. This creates an alternitive timeline that makes all other star trek nul and void. Normaly when a TIme line is broken your suposed to fix it but in this movie they just leave it as it is.

efectivel JJ has ereased all other Sart Trek from the futures history

But this leaves it wide open for a sequel.

It was good and impressive, although i think they could have focused a little more with nero cause the character development on his side of things was a little weak.

yeah that was dissapointing too, nero was over rated in the press and the traliers he barly got any screen time at all.

Just got back from seeing it.

Was impressed. Liked it quite a bit. I probably should've seen it in IMAX/VMAX though, but I saw it with some friends who preferred seeing it regularly. Oh well, there's always Transformers. But I dug how 'accessible' the film was, like, that there weren't all these in-jokes from other Star Trek movies and series and what not that you NEEDED to know to understand.

While I generally did enjoy it, there were a few things that I didn't like about it. Namely, the lack of Simon Pegg disappointed me (yet he was fucking awesome).

As for the whole time travel/alternate universe thing, I'm quite divided. I think it opens up some interesting threads to happen in the inevitable sequels. But at the same time...yeah, it's quite stupid that it pretty much fucks up an established timeline.

Otherwise, enjoyable film. Loved it.

I saw it last week and enjoyed it. As for the alternate universe thing, I think it's a useful tool for a property like this to use. As a comic book reader I find it really annoying when continuity gets contradicted (especially when people can't seem to remember what happened a month ago), and I can only imagine how Trekkies would feel if something similar were to happen in the new movies. The alternate universe idea allows for new stories to be told with the classic Star Trek characters independent of the established canon. I guess you could put it down to lazy writing, but I think I'll wait to see what kind of stories they tell in the sequels before I make that judgment.
