I think it's a testament to Kubrick that he managed to take something as esoteric as that slang and make it comprehensible in a medium like film. When reading a book, if something escapes you, you can stop and analyse the passage or page until it makes sense. No such luxury in film. |

I too would agree with that there point about the what slang or whatever. Why watch intellectual media if not to feel pompous about ones self, and the way in which something as complicated as the use of language was presented in this film was made so coherent, gave, at least me, a real boost to my sense of superiority to the masses. |

That is so fucking true. I've found myself watching a certain movie (or even certain scenes) plenty times over in order to analyse shit I may not have understood the first run. It just may be another brick in the wall Books have against Movies in terms of medium superiority (Not the case with this movie, which I'll watch when I can). Great point. |

Another significant thing about the film was its visual style. Nowadays with films claiming to be set in the 'not too distant future', all we seem to get is smooth edges and gimmicky technology, but in A Clockwork Orange there were a bunch of elements that seemed to contribute towards a coherent vision of the future. There was of course the slang, but there were also the invented fashions, architecture and interior designs. High tech gadgetry contributed very little to the illusion of a future reality, and we were instead presented with a more thought-out vision of a world yet to come. |

Ok, time to pick a new movie. Don't say Transformers... One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has been mentioned, and I think that's a good choice. I am open to suggestion. NOT TRANSFORMERS! XD |

Haha. Kane, over Christmas, I'm going to make it the classic nerd movie club. Then we'll do all your suggestions. XD Zin, Trainspotting works for me. I've read the book too, and love both, even if the book is a mile better. Any other suggestions? |

Problem get. Trainspotting is only 13 years old. Doesn't count. September can be classic 90's movie month. But for now, anything before '89. |
