Skills So you have an armament but is that all you can do? Of course not, you're a human who has lived for years. You're bound to be able to do other things. These are skills. Skills are your more human talents that you can learn on your own. So pretty much everything that isn't super natural, ranging from how well you can use weaponry to more mundane things such as knowing how to cook and how to play piano. All people can start with their skills at the 'talented' level if they want. That means that you have a basic understanding of things and can out do a normal human but are not in any way trained. The only requirement is that you have some reasoning behind how they know what to do. So if you just randomly are a good cook with nothing referencing it ANYWHERE in their history or in threads, then it's going to get you in trouble. Beyond that, you can use experience gained in order to purchase levels. Something important about skills: If you want to improve them, you at least have to show us in some RP sense that they are learning. People don't just learn things overnight if they have never done it. Of course, you don't have to spend YEARS doing something, however there has to be some effort on your character's part. Even a reference in a few threads can be sufficient. Talented - You have never done any formal study but you have practiced and done some self study. You aren't as good as you could be, but you are better than normal people at least. You at least have some competence and natural ability towards what you are doing. The levels past talented are: Trained - You have the experience of someone who has been formally trained and can use their ability to at least make a living. You aren't nearly as good as others in your field, but you are better than just someone who has watched shows on it and learned on their own. You're still supervised in doing these tasks because you're still lower tier of competency in a sense. Experienced - Your training has meshed with experience and you at this point could train another person. Others would trust you to do lower level tasks without any supervision. Specialized - You are at the level of someone who has specialized in that field. Think of a person who has done this for a few years and not done much else. You are very familiar and while you can still improve, you are better than any lay person who just did a casual study as well as most others in your field who haven't focused. At this level, you could lead a group competently and understand each of their positions well enough to supervise all of them. Expert - You tend to be capable of teaching the finer points with great ability. You are one of the more well known people in your field. There are few things you don't know about it and you can do it without much thought when it comes to the simpler tasks. Master - You are one of the true movers and shakers. You are one of the best known people in your field and are capable of doing things most people can't even dream. Most people don't understand or even see the world involving your field even close to what you can see. Your abilities are possibly in the top 1,000 of the entire world (which is really rather impressive). |
