The sky pirate looked across the table at Moira for a moment before letting his eyes drift off over her shoulder. He peered off into the distance behind her, not focusing on anything. "Yeah... I know you're tougher than I think... but the tough ones are the ones that make me worry the most." He smirked a little and then let it fade quickly, all while obviously spacing out. "Weak girls who know they're weak run when there's danger. They get home safe, lock up the doors, and hide there until it's all over. Tough girls stay and fight..." He shifted his eyes back on to her. "And no matter how tough you are, there's always someone tougher." Atazos sighed deeply, bad memories coming back to him slowly. He tried to distract himself by thinking about the mission she wanted him to run on for her. "It is best that I go. Not because I don't think you can handle yourself. I just think I'm better conditioned to survive if something goes wrong." He tapped his fingers on the table before taking a drink of water. Nothing was making the bad memories vanish like he had hoped. They probably never would.

While she did understand what Atazos was trying to say there was still something bothering her about it. She sighed and shook her head a little. There was no sense in arguing about it anyway though. He was going and she wasn't, so there would be no chance for her to even prove how she would handle herself in case of emergency. She was probably better off where she was, dealing with the thinking and not as much of the real work. She quickly looked up at him again and smiled though, she understood that he just wanted what was best for her which actually was quite a nice gesture. "Let's put this aside for now and just enjoy ourselves for a bit. I really need to get my mind off of things." she had been thinking about all this since last night, and right now she just wanted to turn off everything and just "be" for a while. Even if it just was for a short while.

In the end the evening seemed to have been quite a success. It looked like Moira really enjoyed the food aswell as Atazos' company. They sat there for a while even after they had finished the food and just talked for a while. Moira listened with interest to everything he had to say. If nothing else she was at least definietly fancinated by Atazos.

Later they went outside into the streets again. It was a quite windless night, the snow was gently falling from the sky. It was during these moments the streets of Asharei really showed off their best side, it was actually quite beautiful with the snow falling in the street lights. What probably made it more beautiful though was the smile of Moira. She took his arm in hers as they started walking away from the restaurant. "Thank you for a wonderful evening, Atazos." she said with a smile and leaned her head against his shoulder.

Atazos graciously paid the gold for the bill, assuming the tip was included in the rather high charge levied. He then took his leave, double checking to make sure he hadn't left anything behind. He left the Golden Gates with Moira by his side, sufficiently full of high-class food and ready for a good night's sleep in a soft, real bed. As he left the threshold of the eatery, he couldn't help but feel that there might be so upsides to laying down the sword and becoming a productive member of society. Atazos enjoyed this moment a lot, regretting the fact that it was not meant to be. Even if he could hide his jaded past forever, he'd long for his old life and just return to it, ruining everything he had set up.

But those negative thoughts, along with the ones that had been haunting him before dinner lifted at the sight of the snow falling gently by the light of the gas lamps out in the street. He stood on snowy brick, gazing with dark eyes at how the snow seemed to appear at the zenith of the halos' glow and fall slowly to the ground. The sky pirate looked over to Moira, seeing her pretty face looking up at him. He smiled and hooked his right arm around her left, gladly escorting her back to her home.

As they walked down the street, he felt warmed by her body next to his own. He couldn't remember the last time that he'd felt this. Atazos had gotten so used to the cold - like the icy wind on board the deck of an airship in blizzard conditions - that he had forgotten how good it felt to have someone beside him, keeping him warm against the frost. He moved closer to her, placing his left hand on hers. "You're very welcome, Moira. I don't think I've ever had a night like this one... It was my pleasure." He smiled, not minding the long walk back to her house in the upper-class district.

Moira smiled gently, a smile that seemed to lighten up the darkness of the cold night. "I am glad..." she said as they continued walking down the snowy paths through the city. Even though she really was glad for what he said there was something in her that wondered if it was really true. With all his adventures from the past there must have been a night that was something similiar to this. Then again maybe it had never been that fancy before. Maybe it did not even matter at all, it probably did not. Either way she was happy that she had gone out with him. She wondered exactly what it was that made her do it. A couple of years ago she probably wouldn't even consider it.

After a bit of walking they reached Moira's house. Moira loosened the grip around Atazos and walked up the steps in front of the door. Instead of opening the door she turned around to face Atazos. She smiled just as gently as before, and even though she did look awfully tired she was still just as beautiful. "Thank you once again..." she said and looked away a little shyly. She then took one step forward down the steps, which placed her at the same length as Atazos, face to face with him. It was quiet for a short while as she just looked at him, then suddenly it happened. She moved her head closer to Atazos' and placed a soft, but quick, kiss on his lips. Afterwards she quickly, almost instantly, turned around again to cover up how much she was blushing. "I-I sorry if that was weird. I assumed that was what you usually do after a date... It's my first date so I just wanted to have the whole thing, you know. If that makes sense." she said and laughed a little nervously as she unlocked the door and walked in.

Atazos' smile faded a little as he saw the house up ahead. It was a sign that this lovely night with Moira would be over with. He didn't expect to have quite as much fun as he did on the night out with her, so he was actually quite surprised that this left him with a faint feeling of sadness. He thought it was funny, actually. Most people considered his lot, sky pirates, to be heartless, soulless dogs who plundered and raided indiscriminately when, just under the thing exterior of lawlessness and danger they had about them, they were just like everyone else. The raiders of the sky just wanted to make a living the best way they knew how... If there was anyone that Atazos could show this to, it had to be Moira. She was, after all, the first person he had ever let get this close sense his days on the Leviathan. He appreciated her, the way she got close to him without fear despite knowing what he was and not knowing what he was truly capable of.

As they reached the doorstep, Atazos smiled at Moira. The way she looked at him had him feeling a little odd. It was a if the pressure was on all of a sudden for him to do something. He gulped, opening his mouth to reply to her comment on the date. Suddenly, before he could get the words he found out his mouth, she kissed him. He looked at her, paused in time when he tried to speak. Then, she ran off before he could get a response out his flabbergasted mouth. The pirate reached up, closing his mouth, and resting his hand on his lips where he had been kissed. He ran through the thing in his head, recalling when she had said that she'd never been on a date before... could this have been her first kiss. He waited for a moment, feeling a little guilty. He had stolen a lot of things before, food, gold, and even lives, but never someone's first kiss.

His black eyes traced after her, looking into the house. He then smiled. He didn't steal her kiss; she had given it to him. Atazos was filled with the same feeling he had when the older merchant had given him the bread and fruit in town. This wasn't charity though. He shook off the sensation, realizing he was standing out in the snow, and walked inside after her. He closed the door and entered the warm building. He walked into the front room and took off his boots. There was a long day ahead of him tomorrow, one that he'd have to definitely rest up for. He also thought that the note that Moira left him on would be a good note to end the day on. He looked to the room that Moira had vanished into and called after her. "Goodnight. I'll... see you tomorrow." He smiled a bit before retiring to his room.

He stripped down to an undershirt and underwear before hopping into bed. It had been on Hell of a day for him. Swashbuckling, dueling, and monster fighting he could handle. Dating, relationships, and proper kissing etiquette made him nervous. He thought about being able to practice all three with Moira someday in the future and then laughed it off. Moira would have made a fine partner, but he was such a lone wolf after leaving the Leviathan that it felt strange to enter into a relationship so abruptly - or at all. These thoughts buzzed around his head for a while until he finally succumbed to the pull of his full belly into complete unconsciousness. Darkness and the lull of sleep surrounded him as he delved into the world of dreams.

Adventure Log

The next morning Atazos seemed to have woken a lot earlier than yesterday, probably because of the weather outside. Even inside the walls of the warm house the strong wind outside could be heard loud and clear. It even made some parts of the house creak as if it was trying to get through every little crack. When looking out the window of the room one could see that there was actually a snow storm outside, which would explain a lot. It had been very calm the last couple of days, but snow storms were regular and it even surprised that there hadn't been one for a while until now.

When walking downstairs Atazos could see Moira curled up in one of the arm chairs with a blanket around her. She was still sleeping tightly even though the storm seemed to be even louder when standing downstairs. There was a book right next to her and another few scattered over the table. The one next to her looked like it was a note book, the other ones were a few atlas books, and one called "Navigating the skies" and another one called "Complex Machinery". Could it be that she had been up all night again just reading and then just fell asleep? Either way it would probably not be a good idea to wake her up, she deserved some sleep.

After seeing the snow storm outside, he sighed. Looked like it wouldn't be a nice day for a long time again. He grabbed his coat and but it on over his nicer clothes, not looking as nice as he did without the black, fur-rimmed jacket, but he would be warmer than just heading out in the rather thin material by itself. He didn't mind the cold, really, but he couldn't afford to catch ill and miss a day of work.

He headed down the stairs, scratching his head a little and wearing a groggy face. He was kind of looking forward to going out on the town to do Moira's dirty work. Knowing she had a dark streak excited him a bit. Knowing that she wasn't a perfect, sweet little girl made him not feel as bad for having a crush on her. He had the image of her in his mind as he entered the main room, seeing her laying on the arm of the couch. The books told him that she had probably spent the entire night studying the books... books with diagrams about airships and engines. He smiled. It looked like she had some secret desires, after all. He walked over to the couch were she lay, leaned down, and kissed her head through her dark hair very softly. He then headed to the front door and left as quietly as possible.

The snow beat against him hard. It would have been unbearably cold for another race, but his skin and coat prevented the chill from being torturous. It was cold, yes, but he was able to stand it. His blackened eyes cut through the blinding whiteness, showing him the path. He put his hands in his pockets and pushed through the heavy snow. He was heading through the high class part of town and was going in the direction of the black market district to meet Moira's clock-marker friend. He wondered what he'd want, and - more importantly - if he was going to have to draw his sword for the first time in years...

Adventure Log

The streets were not yet filled with people, it would take another hour or so before life actually started to appear at all actually. Most of the market salesmen that usually crowded the cities many squares would probably not set their feet outside their homes today either considering the weather. With no merchants no wares and with no wares no customers. Basically the streets would be more or less empty today, except for the usual buisness men and workers doing their daily routine and getting to their jobs. This was good for Atazos. No one would notice him and most likely no guards would be in the way to bother him with their nonsense.

Atazos walked down the streets and soon appeared at the Tomali square, where he had first met that old man just a couple of days ago. From there he had to take a turn into one of the narrow alley ways in order to get to the black market districts. Moira had told him that her friend had a workshop close to the black market district and that he was the only clock maker there, so it shouldn't be too much work to find him.

Soon he appeared in the outskirts of the black market. Much like the rest of the city the streets were empty of people. No one seemed to be stupid enough to set up shop during a snow storm there either. Walking down the snowy path Atazos could quickly see the workshop not far away. "Regal's Clocks and Workshop" a sign seemed to say.

Being in that familiar place served to remind the wandering pirate that he still had the dried fruit given to him by the delightfully charitable old man. It didn't make him want to use it any more than he did a few moments prior, but it did serve to let him know that if he got hungry or bored, he could at least snack on something yummy while he moved on. Primaril, his head was full of criticisms at the location of the black market district. It may have been out of the way and away from the prying eyes of the public and - most importantly - guards, the way the dark alleyways lead to it like a place intentionally kept out of the public eye made it glaringly obvious to most that something shady was going on around these parts. It always made him a bit nervous, but he felt like the street scum were a lot like barnacles on the bottom of a ship; annoying and easy to scrape off, but ultimately a pointless task as they quickly re-spawn.

After arriving in the eerily desolated neighborhood, Atazos made a quick scan of the buildings around him, concluded that nothing other than the clock-maker's was of particular interest, and made his way to said shop. He turned the knob and meant to press inside, assuming that the door was unlocked and not armed with a trap that would blow him up for being silly enough to think walking through a door was a good idea - although this seemed paranoid, it was a reasonable fear considering his past exploits.

A gentle door bell rang as Atazos entered the building. Regal's Clocks and Workshop was a very tight little shop both thanks to its size aswell as the fact that there were parts and mechanical things more or less flooding the whole place. There was bacially not a lot of room for anything else, let alone customers. Behind, ontop of and underneath all the old and new parts there were clocks laying around, ticking and buzzing from all directions.

Farther into the small shop, behind the shop counter, there was a bearded old man sitting tinkering away on what appeared to be yet another clockwork. Gears, springs and tools were spread out over the counter in about the same way as the rest of the shop and even though it seemed like chaos the old man plowed through the piles of junk and pulled out exactly what he needed it seemed. He was far too focused on his project to even notice Atazos entering the shop at all, even though the bell had rang just a second ago.

(Sorry for short stuff, gotta get into this again.)

Regal's Clocks and Workshop seemed a little strange to him, the clocks from all sides filling his ears with ticking and tocking. It was not too distracting, but it was an odd scene considering the time and energy it took to make a nice clock or watch. With the vast clutter of watches and parts in vast mounds, it was tempting for him not to try and steal anything. He suppressed the urge for the moment as he navigated the tight area in the shop to make his way to the counter where the old man sat.

As Atazos came up the counter, he noticed that the old man was far too enthralled in his work to see what he was doing. He smiled a little, his urge to steal something rising to a zenith as this was the perfect time. He reached over to a nearby stack of gears and tried to put a handful of them into his pocket while man was not looking.

As soon Atazos reached out his hand it was like the old man had never been focused on his project at all. As if he was one with all his old parts and springs he could feel when they were about to be picked up by someone else. With a quick sweep of his hand he picked up his cain that was resting against the counter and wacked it right across the younglings sneaky little fingers. The cain was made out of a solid steel which was more than enough to hurt quite a bit. "I may be old, but you ain't living around these quarters without learning a thing or two." he snarled.

While Atazos recovered from his hurting hand the old man stood up and looked at him with a angry look on his face. He sighed and took off his glasses and wiped them off with a dirty cloth he had pulled from the pocket of his sleeve. "These are hard times for most people, but that does not give anyone the right to steal. Is there no one who teach you manners these days?" He said as he turned around and grumbled something more or less unhearable. It was a wonder that he had not yet thrown Atazos out of the shop to begin with, but this was not any ordinary old man. He turned back to Atazos quickly and continued with a irritated voice "Are you still here?! Did you just want to steal something or was there something else you wanted, hm?"

"Ow! Son of a-!" He drew his hand back extremely fast after being whacked with the steel cane. Nursing his knuckles, he looked at the Clockmaker with narrowed black eyes. Yes, he was tried to steal from his store, but that hurt a lot. After a moment, he sighed, still hurting, but less angry. Thieves caught in the act were usually killed, not lightly punished. Realizing that he got off extremely easy, Atazos dropped his sore hand to the side and leaned on the counter. "Actually, I had some business here..." He smiled, putting on the sleazy charm of a thief. "Moria sent me. I work over at the North Tower as a deck hand." He left it at that, hoping that he would know what he was talking about since he was not entirely sure what he was sent there for.

The old man raised one of his eye brows as he put his dirty glasses back on his nose. With his cain he supported himself past the counter and up towards Atazos. For a while he just stood there examining him from top to bottom. After a while he shook his head slightly "So you are friends with Moira?" he said as he continued to walk past Atazos and over to one of the over full shelves and started to pick out parts at what seemed to be random. "I never thought she would fall for a petty thief such as yourself. Then again it was quite a while size I last saw that lady..." he said with a slight uninterest in his voice. "What surprises me more is that you have a job at all, boy."

With the parts, old and new, in his hand the old man went back to his workshop counter and sat down on his stool again. Without a care for Atazos being there he continued to tinker away on the project he had been working on before. "So do tell about this buisness you and Moira have with me today." He still sounded uninterested, but at least he asked which must have meant something at least. It was hard to tell if he was like this because of the thieving inccident or this was his general way of talking to people. Maybe it was even a bit of both.

Atazos looked at the old man for a long moment after he was done speaking. There was an annoyed look in his dark eyes as he twitched slightly, a smile still on his face. he cracked his neck to the side before standing up straight. "Not sure what that lovely girl wants from me, persay, but I was told to give you this." Atazos reaches into his pocket and pulls out the rolled up paper tied in silk as instructed. He set the scroll on the table and took a step back as he leaned on one of the tables covered in mechanical parts. He was done attempting to steal from this old man - getting caught once was enough to detour him from being smacked with the metal rod again. Still, he was amazed that he was not told to leave. Then again, this was the worst district in all of Asharei. One theft a day was probably far below average for this particular shop.

The old man picked up the rolled up parchment in his hands and looked at it, then up at Atazos and then back at the parchment again. He untied the silk band from the piece of paper and opened it up, reading it for a while. He had a perplexed and intrigued look on his face as he read. Then suddenly he looked up at Atazos again and pulled off his glasses "I am not entirely sure what has flewn into this girl, then again she always was different." he said with a weak smile as he put the parchment back on the table with all the rubble and junk.

He stood up from his chair "This particular piece that she want me to make, and do it not really the easiest thing in the world. And I kind of need material. As you can see I am not fit to go collect anything at all... But I am guessing you are her errand boy of sorts." while saying the last part a crooked smile appeared on his face.

Again, Atazos was on the verge of saying some sort of snappy come back, but he held it in. Any sort of business he had with the old codger would rely on somewhat good relations with him - even if he was kindred spirit in the fact he was quick with an insult and a put-down. He looked to the paper and then back to the man, crossing his arms over each other. "Oh? You want me to run and get something for you? I guess that can be arranged. What kind of gizmo you looking for, old man?"

The old man chuckled a bit as he scratched his beard. "You remind me a bit about myself when I was around your age..." he said with a weak smile forming on his face. He too had once been a thief with an attitude few could pull off. "Anyway..." he continued slowly. "The material I need is a very special ore. Buying it would be too expensive and hard to get our hands on. It is à material used mostly for the imperial weapons research, which obviously also makes it somewhat illegal to the common man. There is however à closed up mine south of the city where they used to mine that particular ore."

The man turned around and pressed à button on one of the many clocks on the wall. A sound of springs and gears could be heard from within the walls as the bookcase behind the old mans desk started moving revealing a secret path. "Leaving the city, let alone coming back with the ore will be easier with this route." he Said calmly and turned back to Atazos. Then he opened one of the drawers in the desk and pulled out a gasmask and gave it to Atazos. "You Will need this in the mine... My name is Regal Vanderhorn by the way, much more pleasant than old man I think" he said once again with that crooked smile of his.

Atazos couldn't help tilt his head in fascination as the old man mentioned that he reminded of him at a younger age. It was actually the same thing that his captain told him when Atazos has first joined the crew of the Leviathan. Looking from Regal to the open passageway, the sky pirate gave out a sigh. "You know, Teiru is usually my dance partner... The skies are far more favorable to me than Syth's domain, but if it's for Moira..."

Atazos walked forward and grabbed the gasmask from Regal in his white, crystalline hand. "What kind of properties does this stone have? I need to know when I'll see it... and that it won't explode of attract all kinds of monsters or something stupid." There was a sort of sarcastic tone in his voice, that denoted that he was not actually worried about the dangers.

Regal chuckled a bit from Atazos' sarcastic remark and turned to the counter again. He pulled out a drawer and started to eagerly look through the parts and other junk that was laying around in it. "I don't think there should be anyone left there by now, the mine was cleared out a while back from what I heard. That might have been just another lie of course. Such a shame what happened to those people..." He closed up the drawer and pulled out the next one underneath and continued his search there instead. "As long as you put that mask on before walking in there you should be fine though. Just make it quick, you wouldn't want to take any chances with that stuff."

He suddenly turned back to Atazos. In between his index finger and his thumb he held up a black sleek stone, almost looked like a gem of some sort. "This is what you are looking for, and don't worry it is definietly harmless on it's own." he said and chuckled lightly. The stone was not much, in fact it was really small, but it definietly gave an idea of what Atazos was to look for in the mine. Regal closed his hand around the small piece of rock and said with a smile; "Well then, are 'we' ready?"
