Irene had recently arrived in the city, quite miraculously noone so far had called her out on her true identity; a human. She had decided her future was a dim one if she were to stay among the Novali.. She could not help but think back at the countless days she had spent in the dinky cabin outside the city that her adopted father had once lived in. The only memory she had left of the world outside this wasteland the Novali called their home was a bright one.. The sun was shining on an entire field of grass, something non-existant anywhere on Revlik Isle. Everything aside, she now had a goal. She had decided to venture through the city, something she had not done in a long while, having stayed mostly to the outskirts to trade where there were fewer guards. She relied on her pale skin and very unrevealing attire to walk through the streets, trying to blend in. Irene was on her way to find an airship to take her off of Revlik isle; anywhere the Novali weren't the dominant race. She had been weaving through alleyways to avoid guards, and thankfully had not run into any trouble; but she was still in the middle of the city and had a long ways to go. While she was walking she kept an eye out for a bowyer or some sort of shop that would sell her some more arrows. She only had ten left, and she knew that she would need more and even higher quality ones if possible. She mostly decided to stick to the sides of the streets and try and remain inconspicuous, she was good at blending in and she had a bit of a skill for it. The only thing the Novali were able to call her out on would be the fact that her skin doesn't glitter. She continued to make her way through the city streets to the airship docks, or the harbor if things didn't go as planned; she had never been on an airship before, but she liked to imagine how it must be amidst the cold sky and the clouds. |

Irene was heading down the road toward Tomali Square, a somewhat smaller market place in the city. Aside from the blacksmith and other smaller buisnesses many merchants usually set up their stands around the square during this time, sometimes a little later depending on the wheater. There was probably a chance that some merchant around there could be selling arrows and other equipment. Luckily for Irene the road toward the square was rather uncrowded around this time. It was still pretty early and most people where too busy looking at their pocket watches rather than paying attention to her. The hostility toward outsiders, especially other races, had been worse than usual and to be honest staying there for too long would probably be a bad idea. Leaving would most likely not be the easiest task in the world though. The airship docks of Asharei City consisted of three towers that were built in the north, west and south parts of the city. They were not very hard to spot either since they were the tallest buildings in the entire city. The towers made it possible for traders and other ships to store, leave and pick up cargo without having to actually pull down to the ground. It made for a faster and more safe process, which was more or less crucial during some of the harder periods of wind and snow. The north tower was the closest to where Irene was standing, however getting a ride was most likely not just going to be a question of asking for it. OOC

She was headed down Tomali Square, a smallish market place within the city she was in. She was walking amidst many merchant stands with interesting goods. It would likely come at a price if she were to buy something. She kept an eye out for a vendor selling bows and arrows as she walked, or even guns; she always wanted to try her hand at a pistol and there was probably a good probability she would run into a vendor of that sort. The square was pretty deserted except for a few merchants at this time in the early morning, which was good.. Less people to see through her guise and scream in terror that she was a 'human' but that was something she tried not to concern herself with. She could still see the airship tower in the distance; there were others, but she decided the northern one she would try first. It was good that the airships docked at towers rather than landing, a large balloon filled with the air would simply be carried off or ravaged by the wind that was as cold as the hearts of the Novali who walked within. She breathed in the fresh night air as she walked. Breathing in the familiar brisk scents and tastes of the air as she walked, her large wolf skin cloak wrapped around her to keep her at least somewhat warm. She looked side to side at the vendors as she walked northwards, keeping an eye out for the goods she wanted; a bow and arrows or a gun. She probably wouldn't get a gun unless it was for the right price, but having a gun would be useful and it has a bit more of a threat to it than a bow does, to a Novali anyways. |

Most of the merchants around the square were selling supplies and food rather than firearms and other weapons. The people shopping in the square were generally not the common traveller and therefore it was often a lot more profitable to be selling bread, meat and expensive dried fruits. Besides one could not just simply sell weapons in the inner city. For a merchant to be able to sell weapons in Asharei he would first have to go through a long process in which the Imperial Council approve or deny the request. Basically not everyone or anyone got a license to sell weapons in the city. Fortunately there was someone selling weapons in the middle of the crowd of supply and food merchants. The middle aged Novali merchant seemed to still be putting up shop for the day, which was reasonable considering how early it was in the morning. It was however never too early to make buisness so talking to him was probably not going to be a problem even though he was busy. |

As Irene walked through the square, she was beginning to notice a pattern concerning the merchants setting up shop. Most of them were selling clothing, food and other supplies and trinkets rather than weapons. There must not be enough demand for them, she secretly surmised. She knew too that it probably would not be easy being a merchant of such weapons in the city either due to the harsh rules and taxes imposed by the Novali government. It was little wonder all these years why she lived in a tiny shack all these years when her adopted father was an exceptional warrior. Eventually, she spotted a middle aged Novali selling weapons of some sort. She casually approached, still keeping her cloak wrapped around her. It wasn't cold enough to warrant such behavior for a Novali, however it hid the majority of her skin quite well. Her face was still somewhat visible. Upon approaching she stood around she wanted to see the man's selection, but saw that he was still setting up the shop for the morning. Standing around briefly, she examined the man's available weapon selection. Satisfied, she asked the Novali merchant "How much would one of your rifles or quality bows cost me? I'm also interested in arrows." She paused for a moment before speaking again. "I'm a hunter from the fields of the frozen dragon." She was speaking in Novaigo, the standard language of the Novali, of which she was equal parts fluent compared to English, her native language. |

The Novali merchant's face lit up as Irene asked about the weapons. He smiled with all his teeth, or rather the ones he had left, and placed a box he was carrying down on the ground. "Looking for some quality weapons eh? Well, you have come to the right place." he said and squated down to open the box he had just placed on the ground. From it he picked up a rifle and held it up to Irene. "The rifles range from 500- to 3000 gold pieces. This one is a civilian version of the old Ash III rifle. Perfect for hunting, whether it be animals or... whatever it is you want to hunt." He said and laughed a little. "Of course they don't come cheap, how about 1000 gold pieces for it?" He placed it on the counter and turned to pick up some arrows as well. "You'll get 10 arrows for 50 gold pieces, or buy 20 for the low price of 80 pieces." He placed a bundle of arrows next to the rifle and studied Irene with his eyes a bit more clearly this time. It was a bit odd for a Novali to cover up so much, but then again hunters had never been all that normal to him. Either way it was a customer, and there was money to be made. The merchant smiled and continued "The bows are saddly not available right now though, the shipment I've been waiting for has not yet arrived. I am terribly sorry." |

Irene smirked at the man as he lit up when asked about the rifles. He began yammering about his collection of fine weaponry. She eyed the ash rifle he had shown her. It was quite interesting. However when the man mentioned his prices... She felt a bit demotivated. "And the bows?" She said after the man listed off the arrows and his bundle deal, only to be apologized to. There weren't any bows at this vendor, but she decided she would try her hand at striking a deal with the merchant. "Perhaps.." She said, "You would consider offering me a few errands.. I'm quick on the feet. That ash rifle you mentioned is a fine weapon, but alas I am but a hunter and I only have a hundred coins, but I would be willing to work towards that if there is anything... Under the table you might need me to do; maybe you need something taken care of? Nothing of a perverted nature of course." If the man didn't have anything for her to do, she considered buying some arrows; but with how overpriced everything was, it would be a wonder if she were able to afford an airship journey off the isle. |

The Novali examined Irene for a second and looked like he was pondering for a bit. Some extra help was always appreciated, especially during setting up shop and the busy hours of the day. Then again having complete strangers helping collect shipments and alike was not the safest deal, especially since a lot of people where not too easy to trust. He scratched his chin a little and sighed lightly. "You seem like a nice kid, but the only errand job I could really offer you now is collecting some shipment for me. To be honest I have a hard time trusting anyone but myself with that... I hope you understand." he said like he was genuinly considering it for a while. It was expensive shipments though and nothing to play around with, and in the end it was worth more than the rifle itself. "You know what, I can offer you the 20 arrows for a reduced price of let's say 50 gold pieces. How does that sound?" he continued with a smile. He picked the rifle back up and placed it back into the wooden box he had first taken it from. |

Irene watched as the man pondered around with her offer. She knew he could use the help, but she wasn't the type to be able to persuade someone. The man looked to be quite busy, but alas she listened as the man turned her down on her offer. He told her that she was not to be trusted, in a much kinder way. "No problem sir," she said after the man turned her down. "Hard to find good help these days, let alone the kind you can trust." She listened as the man offered her another deal, the arrows. "That sounds like quite a deal, you've got me there. I guess i'll buy them." She handed the man the 50 gold pieces from her coin purse and waited for him to hand her the arrows. These were hopefully a finer, more useful quality than her current set, or if they weren't, that was fine too. She could always use more. She had seen the man place the rifle in a wooden box, and took a mental note as to the location and appearance of the box. |

The weapons merchant handed over the bundle of twenty arrows to Irene, and picked up the gold from the counter. He counted them quickly and then looked up at Irene again with a smile. "A pleasure doing buisness with you, miss. I wish you good hunting." he said and quickly went back to work with setting up the shop. Adventure log OOC

Irene snatched up the arrows when they were sold to her, examining them. They seemed well enough so she nodded to the merchant. "Thanks. I'll be sure to come back for that Ash Rifle when i've earned enough coin." She said. She turned to the side and began to walk around the vendor, heading down the street for a fair distance. But as she went around the vendor, she kept her eyes pinned on the ash rifle's box. She would come back for it, but not when she had earned enough coin. The Novali owed her for all she had been through, and a fine weapon would help her through her ordeals to come. After walking a fair distance, she turned around and headed back towards the stall, only this time she kept close to the edge of the market, trying to remain hidden and inconspicuous. If she could sneak up on the vendor, maybe, just maybe noone will notice her grab that box. She sneaks up behind the vendor and if she is unnoticed she snatches the ash rifle box, placing it underneath her cloak and casually walks away from the market. |

OOC Irene carefully walked up behind the many stands in the square, and blended in with the shadows. Patiently she waited for the right time to approach the weapon dealership. Quickly and even without a sound she sneaked up and carefully picked up the box with the rifle in it. Just as quickly and soundlessly she had appeared she was gone again. No one around, not even the shopkeeper himself noticed Irene. Irene managed to walk away casually from the market place before anyone had the chance to notice what she had done or that anything from their inventory was gone. The box that Irene stole from the arms dealer contains one Ash III Rifle and 10 additional bullets. The rifle can hold a maximum of one bullet at a time. Adventure Log

Her heart had pounded with excitement, though the rest of her body she had kept under control. She had succeeded in stealing the Ash Rifle, a seemingly excellent weapon. But she knew it would take time before she could skillfully wield it within her grip, though she had no doubt in her abilities. Maybe she would meet someone that would show her how to use it later on in her journey, who knows? When she was sufficient distance from the nearby marketplace, she turned into a nearby alleyway since she didn't want to draw any attention. She opened up the weapon box, her eyes skimming along the rifle's visage- it was hers. She had never owned anything of such value in her life. She carefully picked it up, running her hands along the smooth barrel. She didn't have time to play with it, however. She slung the rifle over her back and put the single box of ammunition in one of her pockets. Leaving the alleyway, if uneventful she begins her travels towards the airship tower she was originally going for. Despite how easy it was to gather riches from the vendors here, she knew staying for long would spell her death, imprisonment or capture into slavery. |

The snow covered path toward the north airship tower was much like the square not very populated either. A few imperial guards passed Irene on the path though, some of them giving her a strange look as they did. Her being one of the only people present would obviously draw some attention. Their attention was rather quickly diverted to other things though as soon as they had passed, and Irene could continue to walk at a steady pase toward the tower. Soon Irene reached the tower that traversed high above the city. From there ships docked on a regular basis all throughout the day, however the towers did only hold one ship at once, this of course made it a bit more difficult for someone to hitch a ride. It also was rather unusual to do so, and most of the time it wouldn't even be accepted. It was more or less the only option of leaving the island though, so what other choice did she have? It was better than not trying at all at least, that was for sure. The big metal gate to the tower's main hall already stood open so it was just for Irene to walk right in. Beneath her feet was a smooth stone floors, clear enough for one to see his own reflection. The walls were build up with a more rough stone held up by balks of fine wood. There were two steam powered elevators in the end of the room that would fast and efficiently move workers and other people up and down the tower. They were however locked behind metal bars. Right next to the door was a sort of reception where a young lady was sitting behind the wooden counter. From what Irene could see she was in the middle of writing in a tome of some sort. |

As she walked through the streets, Irene held her head low, towards the ground. So long as the Novali didn't get a good long look at her skin or her eyes she knew she would be fine. This didn't seem to deter all the attention though, as a few guards examined her as she passed, she couldn't help but feel their eyes on her skin. All Novali were so judging, she would be glad to be out of this place, to finally feel the sun. It wasn't long before she finally reached the airship tower. She noted there was usually only one Airship docked at a time, that must have been some sort of Novali custom or security measure. However, it was her only option. She had to bravely enter the tower, and if she was caught, it was the end of the road for her. This was more or less the only option she could possibly have other than joining the Novali military if she wished to see the lands outside the island, to make a name for herself. The gate to the tower was already open, and there apparently weren't any guards so Irene strode right in. Irene examined the floor most notably, looking at her reflection, something that only happened in the smoothest of ice, yet this stone mimicked it perfectly. She had only seen a glass mirror once in her life, but this stone rivaled that mirror, for it's beauty was far greater than a simple reflection. Irene's attention turned to the elevator shaft which would take her up to the top floor, but even from here she could tell it was closed, locked- she would need to get permission to board. Irene strode up to the front desk. With rather bad acting skills, she walked up to the lady and began to ask her a question. "What are the procedures to boarding an airship to the mainland? I need to visit my family, I have never been on an airship before and if it's not too much trouble I could use a little help." Edited by Raulaun, Dec 6 2012, 12:42 PM.

A beautiful battle is one you don't have to fight.
|
The lady behind the desk looked up and patiently listened to you as you spoke. Towards the end she showed you a smile, the kind of smile that one gives to someone who is in a position where they find themselves unexpectedly handing out knowledge which everyone should possess to some level. It wasn't a bad smile, but it was patronizing, like she was instructing a child. It was obvious this woman wasn't all that patient, though why she was so sharp despite how calm it was down here, would be a mystery. Her voice, too, contained obviously forced politeness as she explained the situation to you. "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that won't be allowed." It was only then that she seemed to notice your rather rough looks, and composed herself. She was still polite, that's not it. This time the patronizing side to her voice was even worse, though. "I can see you're not from the city, so I'll explain it to you. We're a shipping company, not a travel agency. I'm sorry, but unless you work on one of the airships and have the passport to prove it, it will be impossible to leave through this tower. You could find a regular ship, for ocean travel..." She bent forward and in slightly conspiratorial tones said: "I can tell you this, though. There's an airship crew docked in the tower right now. If you'd head to, say, the inn that you find when you turn right once you leave the door here and then walk straight ahead, you might just find the crew of said ship. If you ask nicely, the captain might just take you for a ride if you promise to help him out... Who knows? If he takes you, you'll have an honest job for a few days, and you'll be able to visit your family. If you manage to convince the captain to let you join, he'll be able to get you a passport and everything!" She ended with a cheery note and smiled at you. It sounded like a good plan.
