A beautiful battle is one you don't have to fight.
Naeryc shuffled a bit further backwards until his back was touching the wall. He was sitting bent over underneath a solid stone table, in a ruined house somewhere in the City of Den. Like almost always, he was looking for an intelligent-seeming dragon to teach him magic, and just like always, the threat of a hungry dragon was always present.

He pulled his foot back when a few drops of water fell on it. It was raining. That meant he would have his vision impaired to some level, yet at the same time, it meant he would be harder to see. Small chance a hungry dragon flying overhead in search of a snack would easily spot him if he moved carefully. Being careful was exactly what he was doing right now as well. He believed to have seen something move in the rain, though the chance of it being a dragon was just as big as the chance that he was imagining things. Still, you didn't survive almost ten years on the dragon-infested continent by taking risks with a 50/50 chance for failure. And so he waited.

Five, ten, fifteen, twenty minutes passed as Naeryc kept in place in utter silence. Then, slowly, he crawled out from underneath, and looked out to investigate the environment.

He could not see anything around from where he was crawling on the ground. It was hard to tell if something was close by anyway as the loud patter of rain drops kept forcing themselves toward the ground. Weather like this was not fit for a Asalin like himself, and not for any sort of dragon for that matter. The thing he thought he saw might just have been his imagination, maybe most of the dragons had hid themselves away from the rain. It would have been the smart choice, but you could never be certain so treading the ruins of the city with care would still be essential.

(Short, but I wanted it to get out there. Some other posts and stuff going on! xD)

Slowly Naeryc left his hiding place, making sure to look left and right as well before fully leaving it. He was already pretty much drenched, so the rain made little difference to him. If you lived in the wild, it rarely did. He looked around the small room, then up through the destroyed roof. No dragons, that was good. Not that he could see all that well thanks to the weather. Aqwer had told him one or two things about the Novali. Perhaps he should have been one of those. Then again, he would not have been able to talk to the somewhat less intelligent dragons.

Knowing that an aerial attack was most likely not going to come, he tip-toed over to the door, and peeked around the corner carefully. There might just be smaller dragons inside, after all. The tiny ones occasionally took shelter in houses like this.

Naeryc peeked out in to the hallway of the building, carefully seeing if there was something out there waiting for him. He could see a small dragons crawling on of the walls, it's thin long body moved graciously across the wall, almost like a snake would probably be the easiest way of describing it. It was a harmless speicies though, and it would most likely not mean him any harm as long as he did not disturb it. It looked up at Nearyc, but did not seem to have enough interest for him before it was on it's way again.

In the other rooms in the hallway he could not see anything clearly from where he was standing. He could not hear anything either because of the intense storm outside. If he passed by the other rooms carefully he could probably get by easily even if there were dragons hiding in there.

Naeryc froze in place when he saw the dragon on the wall. He thought he recognized its kind; the kind that wouldn't turn out to be urged to eat his face. Still, he waited from his spot until the dragon made eye contact and seemed to say "meh, fuck it" before skittering off on its own business again. He let the breath he had been holding in go. Safe, for now. Carefully, slowly, and making sure to look everywhere, Naeryc walked out into the hallway.

Tip-toeing, he walked over to the nearest doorway, and looked in. If there was nothing living inside, he would simply pass on to the next doorway. If there was, he would observe it for a moment, and then try to figure out if it was hostile or not.
