Today was the day. The day he was sure he would die. He was a fool to do this, but his mentor had done it, why should he not follow in his footsteps? He disliked all Dragons, but the Land Dragons of the plains were more agreeable than those of the mountains. That didn't mean they wouldn't kill him. Likewise, he wanted to meet with a powerful dragon and gain it's trust. He wanted to learn more about the dragons, Lance also knew that this would let him know about the events in the region, invaluable information. He wasn't here to fight. But he knew full well how likely it was he would be attacked on sight. His one advantage was wings.. Most Land Dragons did not have wings, so he could fly out of their reach and negotiate. Being a demon probably wasn't going to do much for him either. Perhaps if he could find out more about who his mentor had met, he could persuade a dragon to trust him using that information. But everything was unknown for now. He flew over the ruined city, The City of Den, his mentor had told him it was called. Perhaps he was a fly to them, not even worth bothering with. He flew towards the tallest structure in the ruined city, scanning for dragons. His plan B was to hide out among the ruins should a flying dragon come after him, which probably wasn't going to work out very well, but at least it was a plan. |

The city of Den, a place teeming with dragons of all kinds, the most common being land dragons. It would be considered suicide for a lone person to venture in this place, and what this Lance fellow was doing came really close to it. As he flew above the city, a few dragons noticed him passing by. They didn't pay him a second thought, they did not have some particular grudge against demons and trying to catch a flying target was more trouble than it was worth. For that reason, Lance was going to easily get to the structure he was aiming for, no dragon with the ability to fly was nearby. In fact, even coming across such a dragon at all would be an unlikely scenario. There were no more than five of them across the entire city, and most wouldn't even bother to look at Lance. The structure in question was home to a couple of land dragons. The building had three floors, the dragons were using the bottom one as their nest. Currently, the mother was taking care of her young, a baby male dragon, while the father was out hunting for food. How they would react to Lance was entirely up to him. All floors had openings through which he could fly inside, the building was partially ruined, after all. |

Lance had a great view of the city from so high up. There were many dragons that glanced at him, but few decided to pay him any heed. He was glad he had wings, it must have taken his mentor years to earn their trust, he was prepared to have to do the same. He was immortal, he had all the time in the world. He noticed that the structure he was aiming for had three floors, most of which were empty. The bottom floor, however, had a next, in which he was able to see a lone dragon and her young. It was time to commit suicide, he determined. Lance flew down to the bottom floor, looking for an opening where he could sit crouched, but still high up enough that a Land Dragon would be hard pressed to catch him if he angered it. He was fully prepared to evade an attack while upon the window, and was going to fall back and down if the dragon shot fire at him, or jump up and into the sky if anything else happens. Finding an opening which he perches upon, Lance immediately opens up with his dialogue. "Greetings!" He hollers across the room. "I am Lance the Sixth, son of Lance the Seventh! I seek to earn the favor of dragons in the City of Den. I will perform tasks such as hunting, cleaning and guarding if you would allow me. I would be your humble servant." He stood and bowed, before crouching again. The dragon was probably going to kill him for this. OOC

The dragon glared at the Demon who had just entered the room. Merely stepping inside it was an infringement of her territory, and she wasn't feeling particularly generous that day. Thing was, if she went off to chase the demon, her young would be left all alone. Its annoying wings would make it difficult for her to catch up, so she decided the best plan would be to stay close to her son. The demon then went off talking about something, but his words were lost on her. Not all dragons were capable of understanding common speech. The mother dragon roared at the demon as a warning. The mere force of her shout was enough to push the demon back a few centimeters, he should know not to mess with her. |

Lance's foolproof plan was shattered when the dragon roared at him. The force of the blast from the dragon's roar was enough to knock him back some. As soon as he was roared at, he jumped up into the air, heart pounding. Damn.. He thought. Going to have to find an older dragon than this one.. He always said only the oldest could speak, maybe he meant only the really old.. He decided he would set off in search of an even older dragon. He flapped his wings to ascend higher, circling around the tower to look for where an ancient dragon might reside. If he was lucky, he hadn't attracted any attention from the roar. Hopefully he wouldn't follow a similar outcome next time. High Speech.. If only he had it. |

The dragon settled down as soon as the demon retreated. She switched her attention back to her son and waited for her mate to return. The demon was of zero importance to her now. The demon was indeed lucky, because the only one that would pay attention to the specific dragon's roar was her mate, and he was still too far from the building to notice. From where Lance was currently flying, he could see several locations of importance, or at least areas that stood out. The first was the building he had just been into. Being the tallest in the area, it was a landmark. The second was a cliff, a few tens of meters away from his current position. It extended upwards into a thick mist. The third was a ruined church. It was not as tall as the building next to him, but it stood out because of its design. There were several other buildings in the area, but none of them was that much different from the rest. And there were, of course, the land dragons that walked around the area. Where would the demon choose to go next? |

Lance couldn't find any obvious areas where an ancient dragon might be hiding, but he decided to examine the thick mist not far from his position. He flew towards it. Some old dragons did have magic, perhaps one was generating this mist to hide? Who knew, maybe there was even a cave on the cliff face. He flew as close as he needed to in an effort to examine the cliff wall. Hopefully he would be able to find this ancient dragon, and communicate with it. If he ever wanted to defeat Wolnir, this was what he would have to do. He knew it would be a life time of training and hardship before he stood a chance, but that didn't matter to him, it was his goal in life. Without it, he would be lost. |

The demon flew towards the mist that surrounded the cliff. It was a particularly thick one, although not of magical nature. Lance would only be able to see one meter in front of him at best. As he flew closer to the cliff's wall, he could see that there was nothing interesting about it. It was merely earth, a cliff made out of solid ground. Little did the demon know, a pair of eyes were looking down upon him from higher up. |

Lance was climbing higher and higher up the cliff face, looking for some semblance of a cave. Hopefully he would find one, but it wasn't looking like he would find one in this thick mist. He could only see a single meter in front of him. But he pressed on regardless, trying to find what he was looking for. He climbed higher and higher, completely unknowing that he was about to be glomped, ambushed, attacked or confronted by something at the top of the cliff. |

As Lance rose higher, he would soon come to a clearing. At some point, the cliff stopped going higher up and instead led to flat ground. It was far from the highest part of the cliff, but it would have made for a good stop for anyone climbing it like normal. "What do you want at this place, demon? It's rare to see another person here." a voice spoke through the mist in common. It came from the direction of the clearing, but Lance was still too far to notice who or what was saying that. It was a male voice, and judging from the volume, he shouldn't be more than a few meters away from the edge of the cliff. |

He flew higher and higher, but soon he reached a flat area, where he landed. He jumped at the sound of words emitted through the mist. They were in common, not through his mind like High Speech. He tried to peer through the mist to get a look at who was speaking, to no avail. It was amazing that this person, or creature, could see what he was clearly through the mist. "I am Lance the Seventh, son of Lance the Sixth. I seek to learn more about dragons, and someday slay the mountain dragon Wolnir." He said through the mist, not sure what to expect from the creature or person hiding out of sight. He wasn't sure what to expect, but he knew a blade from the mist from someone who could see well enough through it would spell his end. |

There was a long pause after Lance spoke, followed by an outbreak of laughter. "Kill Wolnir, you?! You have a nice sense of humor lad. Saying that you want to kill an ancient dragon is far from reckless, suicide would be a better term for it. So, you thought this place was a good choice for a training ground?" the man spoke again. He took a few steps closer to Lance and the demon could now clearly see him. He wore black leather armor on his entire body, his pale white skin visible only on his face. He had black hair with brown streaks, and his eyes were pitch black. It was obvious that the man was a Novali. He extended his hand as a greeting towards Lance. "The name's Derek Monti, and I'm here for a completely different reason than you are. You see, there's a mineral said to be found only in this area and I've been searching for it for the past few months. This cliff serves as a nice hiding spot from the land dragons." |

Lance chuckled following the man's response. "I have a lofty goal, but I am not a fool. I will likely never confront Wolnir, as I will never have the power to fight him. Possibly some day, maybe. I was here to learn more about the dragons, but I cannot find an old enough dragon to speak with me." He saw the man emerge from the thick mist, now he could see what he was. "You must be a Novali, i've never seen a Novali before." Lance took his hand and shook it. Lance the Sixth had taught him this greeting, though he had little chance to practice it. Listening to the man's explanation as to why he was here, Lance decided he should put away his lofty goal for now, and focus on something easier. "Well, if you would like me to help. The dragons don't seem to bother with me as I can fly, if you need someone to take a look at an area in their territory, i'd be obliged. What does this mineral do, exactly?" He was curious, as a rare mineral would mean a powerful weapon. Perhaps if he helped this man well enough, he would be rewarded with something that might be of use to him down the line. |

Derek brought a hand to his chin and slightly rubbed it. "Getting a demon to assist me would be a great help. Currently, I can only move about at night when most of the dragons are asleep. But why the sudden interest in my quest? I thought you were here to learn more about dragons, not look for ore." he asked Lance. "But it's not a big secret so I'll tell you anyway. It's a kind of iron that is said to glow under the sun. Weird, isn't it? It piqued my curiosity so I've been trying to find it." he added. |

Lance nodded. "If I help you, I may be able to meet someone who can assist me with dragons in the future. I'm told I do not age, so there is no reason I shouldn't assist you. I've lived here my entire life, I need to expand my knowledge of this world if I am to succeed. I shouldn't be so brash as to go out and fight dragons without being able to defend myself." Lance processed the description of the ore. "I've never really heard of that kind of ore, but I would be more than willing to help you out with it. I don't know very much about the earth, but if you tell me what to look for, I should be able to help you locate it." |

"Fair enough. Although I don't know how much you could learn about dragons from this, considering I personally know little about them and there are probably no other humanoids around. I have a picture of it that I've been using to look for it, wait a second." Derek said before disappearing into the mist. A few seconds later, he returned with a piece of paper that had a detailed sketch on it. The sketch was that of a lump of iron ore that glowed the colors of the rainbow. "Like I said before, it's iron that glows under the sunlight. Well, it's not exactly iron, but I've been told it shares many properties with it if you exclude the glowing part. I've been unsuccessful so far because I've only been able to move about at night; I have to actually take a sample from each different area and then check it the following day away from the dragons. As you can guess, it's not the fastest method and I've been unsuccessful so far. Nothing but regular iron, not much of it either." |

"I don't need much to live, which means I can be selfless as my days are not numbered, my mentor taught me that." Lance listened silently and intently. He looked at the paper that was shown to him. The ore seemed to be a bit odd. "Well." Lance said. "If it exists, I am sure I can help you find it. Just teach me how to sample and what to look for and I can get started on that right away. Is this where your camp is for now?" He decided asking other questions about the man was not warranted for now, but at least he had another thing to do aside from rushing into a dragon's den. Now he can rush into a dragon's den in search of ore instead of dragons, something a little less dangerous, but a little less likely. |

"Yes, I've set p camp here for now. You probably can't see it through the mist, but I have a tent just over there." Derek answered while pointing towards the inside of the clearing. "How to sample, huh? It's not really all that difficult. You just need to break off a small piece of the mineral. I'll give you my spare pickaxe since I doubt you have one of your own." he said before disappearing into the mist once more, to return with an old and worn pickaxe which he handed over to Lance. "It's a bit cloudy today, but you have a much better chance of actually encountering a glowing mineral than I do during the night. Oh, and before I forget." Derek fumbled into his pocket for a bit and took out another piece of paper. A map of the general area of the city was drawn on it with several markings. "I've marked the areas where I've taken samples from with black so you can know which places to ignore. The red markings are where I've seen really huge dragons. It'd be best for you if you avoid those areas." |

Lance nodded at the information he was given, grasping the pickaxe loaned to him in one hand. Sounded easy enough. Lance studied the map shown to him. He had a feeling that if Derek lost the map, it would hinder his operation. "I'll probably check the areas that have dragons regardless.. There aren't many dragons here that can fly. Getting a sample is going to be the hard part. I'll have to piss them off and lure them away to come back later." He chuckled a bit. "I guess i'll set off on this little venture. I'll try to report in before the day is out." If Derek had no more questions, it was about time he set off on his new mission. |

"It's up to you to risk getting close to the dragons, but some of the bigger ones can catch despite being unable to fly. Just, keep your distance and you will be fine. Good luck, and don't do anything reckless." Derek told Lance before the latter set off in search of the glowing iron, from now on to be referred to as rainbow iron. |
