DEVELOPMENT OF LORE IS HAULTED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Lore is leaning towards a collectible breeds site aiming at ages 16+. All pets are from some sort of folklore. Explorations is key. Trading will be a large part of the site.

Pets can be kept in pandora box like capsules. They play the role of a spiritual medium. Many pets are avaliable in a basic colour, rare ones can be found, and mutations of such are even rarer. These changes can be anything from an altered look to mechanical body parts.

The creatures of the world, are separated into realms, and before a player can advance into another realm, they must first achieve/collected a certain amount of beasts. They unlock new areas.

Human avatars on pet sites; What do you think of it.

Hi guys

I'd like to know what you think of human avatars on pet sites.

I am tired of seeing them. It doesn't feel right having humans control non real life species. You don't really control your dog either unless you've seriously harmed it... But it should listen to you because it likes you. If petsites are to have human avatars they'd better be very focused on interaction. The better a user would care for it the more it would be willing to do. Which could translate to more features unlocked etc

Human avatars often end up being a big focus. With a lot of energy going into making clothes for them. This leaves less to go into working on other parts of the site. You could say it's up to people to decide for themselves what the focus of the site should be or that human avatars are mainly for forums. I don't think they are necessary. People can have image avatars on the forums. If they want a character they can draw one or ask to be drawn one. They could write characters and roleplay.

I love avatars but it depends on the purpose of the petsite. They can fit well in certain types of game play, but a site about becoming a wolf obviously wouldn't have any real use for them other than as a distractive aesthetic. Yet a site where players role in the game is focused more on community. HAs may be a good addition.
I feel they should be within context.
Like a roleplay focused game may require an avatars to be in possession of a certain item to access an area. Perhaps an ID or key.

I've grown tired of seeing them, and I really don't see the purpose of using them except to show the other users that you have more than enough money to spend on the clothes and accessories for your avatar and still be able to support your pet and your game with it. It's like owning a million dollar app for your iPhone - You just show the world that you could own a million-dollar app.

Why human anyway? What if the world the virtual pet site takes place in is no way near Earth? What not a completely different race like aliens or elves or dwarves? At least becoming a wolf on EKOS is a new interesting take, something new and unique that regular VPS players could get than the run-of-the-mill HAs.

Celendria has an RPG game in its site, but it didn't require a human avatar - just the pet. Your avatar doesn't do squat anyway and your pet does all the fighting for you.

HAs; Unless the site had nothing to do with virtual pet sites (Gaia Online for example), they're merely a waste of money and needless showing off.

For the most part I agree with Vanilla. The only exception to this is if it actually makes it out like you're the caretaker of the pets, or something of the like. Then I can see why it would be there.

I would prefer it if the HA's were anthropomorphized or some such. Then I would adore seeing them. XD But that's also going to get old. It would still be best implemented when necessary.

@Vertigo: I think, if a petsite is to have human avatars, that yeah, it should be interacting with the pets. But, i've not seen any sites that do that before. It's all on the cloths(Like you said). And i mean, yeah if a site does more interaction with the pets for the human avatars, then it would do so much better for the site.

@vanillaeclair: I have to agree with everything you said right there. Took the words right out of my mouth.

All in all, i'm not a big fan of human avatars on petsites.

I think it wholly depends on the site. I have been on multiple sites where HAs were completely useless. Like Vanilla said; they are basically a big old money pit.

But then again, people are becoming more creative with the role of an HA. There is a game currently in development that I've been stalking for a while, where your HA has stats and such, and those correspond to areas in explore and other game features. There is another game where they have something that is basically an HA, but isn't actually human. It's cute, but still a money pit.

All in all, I prefer games where the plot insinuates that you are a human, without forcing you to have an avatar. Or games that do away with the whole idea completely.

That all sounds really cool Nevreme. I'm also glad to hear about a site incorporating avatars that are not human. Been waiting for that.

Ekos sorta has an avatar system *shrugs*
I'm not much of a HA fan overall, but I can see where it is fun to have. Take Khimeros for example.

I'm guessing here on Lore, it'll be implied that you are human, but you won't have an actual HA
None can has cheezburger cuz the Master eated it... along with the cat.
