Did the cat pee on things before all the upheaval in your life?

If not, I would tell the Humane society the cliff notes version of what has been going on, including the stray cats outside. This will help them to place her in the appropriate home.

You need a more immediate solution for Rosie so it’s okay to not pursue the woman in Florida.

Would you be open to doing a test run with the pastor? Bring Rosie there for a predetermined amount of time. If everyone is happy, she has a new home. If it doesn’t work out for any reason, you take her back and continue to look for other options.

This is a good idea. You could have her mom take Rosie up this week and then stop by when you’re in Michigan and see how it’s going.

I’m so happy to have you guys to talk through this with. Being honest about the cat is probably the way to go. She hasn’t had this problem before so I don’t know what to attribute it to. But I will mention the strays and the music lessons.
I like the idea of being able to visit Rosie, or at least to be given updates on a regular basis. They’re literally down the street from my parents and have been the best dog owners. We’ve commented on it before.

If you're sure about the pastor's abilities as a pet owner and they will give her a good home, I'd go with the pastor for the dog.

The cat I'm really not sure about. Definitely tell the truth about all the upheaval in your family's life. It affects the pets as well. I would say there's been a lot going on with the divorce, working, etc. and the cat has had elimination problems.

Rosie’s breeder hooked me up with a woman who is interested in an adult Newf. She currently lives in FL, but wants to relocate to northern Ohio or southern Michigan to be closer to family. She’s owned Newfs for 20 years and is now retired and looking for a play mate for her 3 year old neutered Newf. She has filled out an application with the breeder, so she obviously thinks she’s a suitable owner.
I have yet to contact her. I mean, this doesn’t sound like it would be happening soon. She doesn’t even know which state she’ll be living in. Plus my mom texted me earlier and mentioned that their pastor would love to have her. They have had Newfs for years and live down the street from my parents. I’ve known them for 25 years and know that they would be an excellent home. I may contact the breeder and see what she thinks. My mom is visiting this week and could bring her back with her. I’ll also be driving to Michigan in two weeks with the kids for spring break, so that could work too.
Thoughts?

The cat is still peeing. I received a call from our local humane society (I had called asking for advice). They have an open space and said I could bring her in tomorrow when they open at 2.
I had a friend try to post the flyer for me on local sites, but none of them allowed the selling of animals.
I feel like I’ve done what I could and now I just have to hope that she gets adopted. They have a 95% rate of adoptable pets, so I’m thinking of omitting the peeing issue. Ugh. I don’t know what to do here.

For my own mental health this needs to happen soon. I can’t go on in limbo like this. It’s not fair to me or the kids.

Thoughts?

My DD has a Newfie. She said to contact the Newfie Rescue Association closet to you and they will find a foster home and eventually a new, very suitable home. She said it’s no expense to you.

Today is the day and I’m trying really hard to hold it together. I can’t allow emotion to take over, so I’m trying to stay focused on the big picture.

My mom will be in town in a couple of hours. I’m hoping she’ll be here to accompany me to the humane society before i have to get the kids from school. I’m tired of doing things like this alone, so it would be amazing if she could join me. If not, I’ll just go through the motions and let get a huge hug when she does get in town.

I broke down this morning and sobbed into Hazel’s fur. So at least I had that last moment with her. I apologized and said all the things I had to say. And now I’m crying again.

I could really use some positive words right now. Please no flames as I can’t handle them right now. This is what’s best for my family and it’s the best chance I can give her right now.
Thank you. ♥️

You are not doing the easy thing, you are doing the right thing. Of course it hurts. Hugs Bailey, you are a good mom to Rosie and Hazel.

I got Mia from someone who could not support her anymore. She is the #1 woman in my husband's life. They are bonded forever. I hope Rosie and Hazel also find their forever humans.

And now that I’ve put the wheels in motion for the pastor to take Rosie, he’s unsure. He has another dog and that’s a big gamble to take. I’m unwilling to put her through that much traveling for an uncertain situation. Since I’m coming up in two weeks for spring break, I have the option of letting Rosie try it out over there for a few days. If it didn’t work oh, she would just come home with me. So that’s a back up plan I guess.

I’m back to contacting the others who have shown interest. The breeder emailed me to say that she trusted that I would find a good home for Rosie, and just to pass on her info.

So two steps forward...three steps back...

Bailey, one thing my contact said was that rescues have the resources to do all of this vetting for you. I'm less experienced in breed rescue than she is, but I've found this to be true. We have a process and what we hope the surrendering owners can give us is info that will help us find the best possible match for their dog.

This isn't your fault, Bailey. You'd never have given these guys up if you had any other feasible option but you can't do it all. That's not your fault. You're not doing this to them. You're doing this for all of you.

I did it. I may have cried the whole time, but I did it. They were amazing and I feel really good about the facility. They are a no-kill shelter and have a cat room for their long-term residents. They weee heartbroken right along with me and said they would do everything they could to make sure she went to a good home. The alternative is for her to go to prison. 😂 The shelter has a program with the local women’s prison. Inmates on good behavior can be placed with an animal. They workers said this might be the best option for her as there is no carpet in prison. 😂

So that made me laugh. She’s the only child of mine that is allowed to go there.

Aww ((hugs)). I'm glad you did it and I'm glad they're a no kill, that gives you peace of mind, at least it would be for me.

Was your mom able to go with you?

You're doing what's best for you and your family but you're also doing what's best for the animals. Even though you have to get rid of them you're still doing your due diligence. That's admirable and I don't think a lot of people would do that.

Thank you.

My mom got lost on the way and I had to go alone. I did run into a girl from AA there. Haven’t seen her since my life fell apart. It was kind of fitting to have someone there who could make the joke, “girl, we can barely take care of ourselves - don’t be so hard on yourself.”

So that was nice.

My mom is here now and we are going to go get the kids. Time to look happy! lol

I am about to drive Rosie to meet her new parents. They are former Newfie breeders and have a 5 year old Newf who needs a sister. M

I’m keeping my head up and my eye on the prize. She’s going to be in heaven with this next life of hers. A huge house, 3 fenced-in acres, and a helicopter mom who won’t drive in bad weather with her dogs in the car.

Good vibes and stuff are always welcome. ♥️

Shit.

Rosie bit her new owner.
I said I didn’t think she was food aggressive, but that she should feed the dogs separately just in case. Well she poured the bag of food I had given her into another container, thus causing Rosie to attack her dog (also a Newf). The owner was bit while breaking them apart.

She’s going to feed them separately and be cautious for a few days, but if this happens again, Rosie’s coming back.

I don’t know what to do.
