I watched most of it. Heading to bed. Will watch rest tomorrow.

Hilda and Doug were being their usual selves.
+1 to what I bolded.

Am I the only one who hated everything they did on Trading spaces? It all looked like crap! Hildy was the worst! Why would anyone want them to come into their homes. The entertainment value is epic though.
MNGal, you are not alone.

Doug is doing burlap. Ugh.

I watched it last night. Even with $2000 Hildy's design was hideous. Doug's was ok, although I'm wondering how long it will be before the burlap starts sagging on the walls.

I watched the reruns of their old shows yesterday and was horrible with the cardboard glued on the walls and ceiling in The one episode. I was also appalled that if the home owner specified they couldn't stand a color or theme, the designer used it.

You know what? I still enjoy the show!!!!

I was watching the old episodes yesterday and I googled the Hildi hay incident. It took 5 adults 17 hours to remove it. It was also mentioned that Hildi and Amy Winn removed an expensive mantle piece and replaced it with cheap pine.

I love the show for the entertainment value but there’s no way I’d let them anywhere near my house.

I watched the premiere last night. Hildi was being Hildi, but what really ticked me off about her is her bitching about her team not finishing all of their homework. Bitch, they stayed up till 4am working on that room while you were gone, lay off.

Could not stand Hildy's room. That pattern was awful. Doug's came out ok.

I hated Hildi's room and having the mirror only made it worse in my opinion. At least she only used paint and that's an easy enough fix.

Doug's room was better but I'd be very concerned about having to replace all the drywall when/if the burlap is taken off the wall.

I cannot believe these people are real designers. Everything is so freaking ugly.

I saw some of the old episodes earlier in the day. So much of their designs were SOOO cheap-looking.

Hildy bitching last night was annoying. She did stupid crap and then got mad when the homeowners didn't want to do it and gave Ty a hard time for not wanting her to have scaffolding while he was trying to install the Murphy bed (the bed was the onky decent thing in that room). She acted so Put - upon and persecuted.

Doug room looked better than I thought it would ---though I hated the picture over the bed. I don't like changes that are going to be hard to remove/fix, so I wonder about the burlap. It did look better than I expected though.

The burlap was nailed/stapled along the ceiling. They didn't glue it down so it will be easy to remove. They'll just have to do some spackling/sanding.

Doug’s room didn’t look nearly as bad as I expected. I loved Carter’s dresser.

Hildi’s room though, it was just as ugly as you’d expect from her. I know it was a shit ton of painting for the homeowners and it must have been exhausting but it looked horrible. The uneven lines would drive me crazy.

and you know the homeowners are going to paint over that stuff ASAP. that makes me feel bad for the team that painted it. They tried to tell Hildy---then they did all that work---and now the homeowners are going to have to un-do all of it.

WTF would you design a room like that knowing that Grandma visits and stays there? That was the WHOLE point of re-doing the room---so the wife's mother would stay with them. WTF would you paint it something so wierd---you're going to give Grandma epileptic seizures or something.

Can any one find and post pictures of the rooms? I didn't watch but now I'm ridiculous curious.

I couldn't get a picture, but the link above has a video clip that is a 360 degree of the rooms.

ETA: Doug's room is first. Hildy's starts about the 2min mark.

OMG..they are both horrible with Doug's only being slightly less so. SO MUCH BROWN and Hildy's looks like the 70's threw up in there.

on camera, Doug's room didn't look so bad. On this video, it looks darker than it did on the episode that aired on Saturday. It wasn't really my style, but it wasn't the worst thing he's come up with. Since it seems they stapled the burlap---not glued it---there doesn't seem to have been permanent damage.

I would not let Hildy anywhere near my house under any circumstances.

I actually could see Hildy's room fitting into some people's styles. In the right house with the right furniture, I think it would look good. Maybe not the pattern on the ceiling, but as just a simple accent wall. But it's clearly not going to work for everyone and it's not going to add any value to your house should you ever try to sell it.

The homeowner of the Hildy house was very diplomatic. "Wow they did so much work in here."

At least the walls/ceiling can be painted over. Those mirrors were super epoxied/glued to the walls though so I think they're stuck with those.

I do like the concept of the Murphy bed and being able to use the room as other things though. But it sounds like the family had already been using it as a storage/junk room so my guess is that in 3 months it will be full of crap again.

I didn't think Doug's was bad. It would've been just as good, if not better, with bluish walls and a white ceiling, but I feel like he's always trying to prove he's a "designer."

Hildi is the worst.

I didn't get to watch it, as I was on a bus coming home from DC. Comcast has it through OnDemand but only until tomorrow, so I will make time to watch it.

Thoughts on Ty and Carter as designers? Obviously the producers had them play it safe. No way one of them could have pulled a Hildi and had any chance at being a liked designer.

Carter’s room was pretty but it didn’t seem practical. Maybe it’s because I think man caves are dumb so I don’t see the need for a girly pink room for mom to sit in.

I loved the pattern on the wall in Ty’s room. The curtains weren’t great and I’d never be comfortable sitting in the vintage couch but overall I would have been pleased if I was the homeowner.

Loved ty's wall. Hated the flooring and used couch. Some of the pillows were ok. Curtains were 'meh'.

I think it's awesome for Mom to have her own 'cave'. I think all adults should have their own space somehow. Personally, I wouldn't do the girly - pink thing, but it did seem like what she wanted.
Functionallly----where was the tv? I like the couch/bed idea...but that tiny table looked useless. And what are we doing in that room? No bookshelves and lamps. No tv. No Craft space (if shes into that). Is she just sitting there looking at the kid?

The lack of usable stuff in the pink room is what makes me feel like it’s pointless. Was there even a cozy chair to sit in and read a book? The trundle bed didn’t even look adult sized and I doubt the desk was wide enough for a sheet of paper. But overall it wasn’t ugly so I call that a win.
