I went to a quasi-work event (party at colleagues' house). Had some food, a couple glasses of wine, etc. Felt a bit queasy, asked for restroom, walked 3 steps and couldn't remember directions to rest room. Got dizzy. Gripped kitchen counter. Woke up on kitchen floor hearing someone say "I'm calling an ambulance".

So---I couldn't have been out for more than a few seconds. I didn't hit my head or anything. By the time the ambulance got there I was sitting up, completely coherent, chatting, etc. Face was pale and clammy, but otherwise ok.

EMTs said my blood sugar was 87 (which seems low since I had eaten 45 minutes before) and blood pressure was 170/95 (not surprising since I was laying in the floor!) and pulse was high (no kidding!).

Have appointment at regular Dr tomorrow morning.

Someone tell me that I"m probably NOT dying, ok?

I do have low blood-sugar spells. I don't take anything, but I don't go hours without eating either. Usually, I get a little bitchy and shaky---so I eat---and them I'm fine. I've never had blood sugar just drop and pass out before (if that's what caused it). I didn't eat anything wierd---everyone else ate/drank the same stuff I did---and I only had 1.5 glasses wine.

I have had some serious cold spells lately though. Thursday night I was so cold in my house that I added socks and a comforter and was shivering--even though the temp in my house hasn't changed in months. I honestly though the thermostat was broken. That has happened a couple of times in the last 2 months or so. Wierd.

I blame the so-called students. They are draining your life force.

Or it may be your blood sugar. I'd say calling on an expert (that would not be moi) is the best idea.

I used to pass out occasionally from low blood pressure and hypoglycemia. Your blood pressure seems a little high, however. Hope you find an easy to fix answer!

That is scary, do you have a kit to test your blood sugar?

Nope. They may give (sorry, SELL) me one tomorrow!

I hope it's something that simple. My mother used to work for a hospital, in the medical records/billing dept. She rattled off all these serious things like epilepsy, stroke, etc.

I would prefer something a little less dramatic!

I would say it has something to do with your blood sugar and/or blood pressure. Good luck!

Temperature fluctuations can be from blood sugar drops or spikes.
You're not dying. That's the extent of my knowledge.
Hope you find the answers and it's an easy fix.

Do you have migraines at all?

I used to pass out frequently, with similar symptoms, and they told me that it just happens to people with migraines sometimes. The trigger is generally lower than normal blood sugar and sometimes blood pressure (although the one time the called an ambulance my BP has spiked.. because I was on the floor). I’ve learned that when I start feeling really off I need to eat something, because my boood sugar runs low so if I feel weird I’m really low.

Your doctor should have more specific information for you, but my neurologist basically just told me it’s normal (although passing out is a scary thing to have as a normal occurrence) for some people.

How scary! It's good that you are getting checked out.

I do not think you are dying; I agree with the other Peeps that it is likely blood sugar related.

Maybe you have a virus or something that is aggravating low blood sugar symptoms. You mentioned being super cold.

Could you have low iron or dehydration? Unexplained confusion and a sudden fall for no apparent reason with a fairly quick recovery is something I sometimes see with runners and blood donors.

Low iron might also explain your chills.

I was also going to blame the students, especially Mr. I need a comprehensive final even though I haven't done anything all term.

Peri-menopause?

Thyroid issues can make you feel cold or hot.

You probably just had an insulin spike that dropped you 50 or so points in minutes. They suck ass but they do happen. It is called "Reactive Hypoglycemia". I usually get them the day after having a rice or pasta based dinner.

I hope it's something minor. My freshman year of high school, I passed out at the end of my first class (theater!). My doctor couldn't find anything wrong and concluded that my body was just stressed out and said done. We had just moved in to a new house, wasn't eating the best, and starting high school was apparently more stressful on my body than I thought. I never did pass out again. I hope it's something like thst for you!

Bama! I'm so sorry that happened but so glad you are "ok". I'm glad you are getting checked out just so you can have a clue what to think!

I agree with the others about blood sugars. If the EMTs had thought it was anything likely to kill you, they would have taken you in.

There's probably something a bit off kilter (blood sugars, blood pressure, thyroid) that's causing these cold fits. If tests don't show anything, I'd keep a log of what you eat and when they happen. Like Sassy said, it could be food related too.

Sending good thoughts.

About 10 yrs ago former boss was out with friends. He'd had a few appetizers and 1 beer. He stood up to go to restroom, walked 2 steps and passed out.

They ran tests on him for months. Never figured out why he passed out and he's never passed out again.

I hope they either find an easy answer for you or it never happens again.

87 doesn't seem low enough to cause fainting, unless you were coming back from an even lower number before you ate (and it had time to climb while waiting on the EMTs.

You people and your quaint little categories.
Do you still have your gallbladder?

Fun fact -- gallbladder issues can cause random extreme drops in blood pressure that you make hit the floor, and that are nearly impossible to recognize as gallbladder attacks because they are over by the time you see a doctor.

Dr. Is leaning towards either low iron or a thyroid issue. Both would explain the cold spells and I have a family history of pretty serious thyroid issues.

Did blood test. Will know more soon.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

Glad you are getting checked out.

I can only add that when I fainted I found out I was pregnant.
