Have you ever returned foundation?

I bought a Tarte foundation Saturday at Ulta and the shade isn’t quite right for me. I want to return it for a different shade.

I've never done it, and I don't shop in stores that allow it, myself. Looking at you, Sephora >:(

Call me a skeptic, or paranoid, but I'd be shocked if some of those returns don't end up back on the shelf. No thank you. Personal products is one area I do appreciate a little extra packaging that shows a new product vs. an opened one.

Wasn't there just a big thing going around that Ulta repackaged returned makeup and put it back on the shelves?

As for retiring it, if they allow it then go for it.

Absolutely return it or exchange it. There is a 60 day return policy with receipt, which if you are a loyalty member you don’t even need it, the cashiers can look it up with your phone number. Without any receipt or member sign up you will get in store credit, or they can do a straight up color exchange.

Returned merchandise doesn’t end up back on the shelves. Due to the recent lawsuit stating otherwise Ulta has updated their return and destroy processes at the store level through corporate. All returns are tracked from the Point of Sale through the final destroy and into the trash.

Forgive me for continuing to be skeptical in the face of new rules and laws.

I have. I returned a lipstick to Ulta. They took it back without questions. I don't remember if I had the receipt.

It kills me to return stuff even to Sephora, I hate waste. I know I'm weird. :-/

If a foundation is too dark or light I buy a cheapie (Elf is good) brand much lighter or darker and customise it on my face. It's actually handy as the weather turns warmer and my face is a bit darker (fake tan of course), as you always have the right shade.

Most places do take returns. From experience, even with signs clearly posted that returns are not possible, people will still insist on doing it--and the hissy fit that they throw will cost more than just eating the cost of the return. Having been on the receiving end of such a tirade more than once, I can tell you it is one of many reasons I got out of retail quickly.

(Shoe store, big signs, no returns if the shoes are obviously worn. Filthy shoes from the previous season with the soles worn through. And the dad (the girl appeared to be in her early 20s) says, "well, how is she supposed to know if she likes them until she has worn them to church a few times?" The hypocrisy still irks me nearly 30 years later.)

Yes, I have returned foundation to both Ulta and Sephora without issues before. Either because the shade wasn't right (I am super pale and often the lightest shades are still too dark) or it just didn't wear well on me.

Never had an issue with either store. Just tell them you'd like to return/exchange and the reason why.

Yes you can return it. I've done it several times at Ulta and Sephora.

If you want to avoid returns in the future try asking for a sample. Sephora will give one easily. Ulta may or may not.

This reminds me of need more powder, mascara and eyeliner liner. I've been lazy in getting my butt to Ulta to buy some more and it's starting to show on my face.
