Wtf. So I finished loading the dishwasher yesterday and when I went to load the Cascade pod I noticed there was one already in there, not dissolved! Wtf! This means all of the “clean” dishes from last week weren’t really clean. Fucking fabulous. I figured maybe something weird just happened. Whatever, I’ll try again. So I started the dishwasher last night and same thing this morning - pod not dissolved, wtf! The little detergent compartment is open like it should be at the end of a cycle so I think it’s working properly. I doubt I’m blocking it since I have been loading dishes the same exact way for over the two years we’ve had this dishwasher. (I have no clue how old the dishwasher actually is since we are renters and this was here when we moved in). What the hell could cause this to happen? |

How old are your pods? If they are too old that may be the issue. You might also want to run a cleaning cycle without dishes. |

This happens to be every now and then. Maybe once every 4-6 weeks or so? I do dishes 4-5 times a week... I tend to think it is just a faulty pod when it happens. It's like they are just sort of partially dissolving and stuck in the little compartment. The door does open. I've never had it happen twice in a row though. |

change the filter? Is there an issue with the hot water? Could you change the brand of pod? Some dissolve easier than others. |

Is there anything different about the water pressure in the kitchen? Or is the water not getting as hot as it's supposed to? I use powder, but I know that the little pods won't dissolve if there's not enough water getting into the DW or if the water isn't hot enough. |

My thought is maybe your water temperature needs checking. Are your showers the same? |

Some dishwashers have a heating coil to heat the water. If yours is that type, maybe the heating element isn’t working? |

NO. I am sexy and pretty.

Could the little door not be opening until the end of the cycle? I'd try tucking a pod into your silverware rack and see if it dissolves when you do that? |

Buffy I'm glad you posted because I've noticed this happening off and on with my Cascade pods as well. I went to liquid and I'm thinking it's something with the dispenser or water pressure because I ran a load and there was liquid cascade on the door where the dispenser thingie is. |

Are you using a cooler setting than usual? If the heating coil is not getting as hot as it should it may still be warm enough to dry the dishes but not melt the pod casing. I'd try the hottest setting to see if it makes a difference. Also, pausing and opening the dishwasher to check the water temperature during the wash part of the cycle could be informative. It's also possible the heating element is turning on for the drying part of the cycle but not for the washing time. Edited by LapisLazuli, Apr 16 2018, 07:04 PM.

Yea, I had a similar issue with a previous dishwasher. It wasn't old - maybe 6-8 years old, but we were told by a repairman to just toss the pod into the bottom of the machine if they're not dissolving completely in the wash. That did the trick. |

Do you have hard water? Maybe if you use a dishwasher cleaner/descaler the dishwasher pods might work better? |

We were advised not to use pods in the dishwasher. We went back to gel and haven’t had any issues since. When we used the pods we had to have the dishwasher repaired twice. The pods weren’t dissolving, the door wasn’t opening all the way, the service guy said pods cause them so many probl me they advise against them. |

When this was happening to me, it was because the machine was broken and no water was getting in at all. |

I get the Sam's club pods. I toss them in the bottom. The little door on my dishwasher sticks sometimes and doesn't always let the pod out. |

I've noticed the same thing happening with laundry pods as well. I think (total hypothesis here) is that the manufacturer are making the "skin" thicker to keep them from dissolving when a little kid sticks them in their mouth. I don't use them or dishwashing pods anymore. |

Oh Buffy, isn't this why we rent? Call maintenance and tell them to fix your dishwasher!

I was told not to put the pods in the door compartment, to put it in the cutlery basket instead as they need more time to dissolve properly. They said only use powder/gel in the door compartment. |

I just throw my pods in the bottom, like someone upthread stated. The door never let them out at the right time and made a sticky mess. |

I add water to the detergent dispenser. Also, no big pans or anything can be blocking the flap from opening all the way. Our dishwasher doesn’t have a heating element. It works fine most of the time. |

We had that issue, the pods created more issues to the dishwasher because of the build up. Depending on the hardness of the water, it can effect the breakdown of the pods. The repair guy told us he has constant work due to the pods destructive effect on dishwashers. It's better for your dishwasher to use loose powder or fluid. Since we've whiched to fluid haven't had another issue since. |

Weird. So I just did a little test by placing a glass face up on the top rack and making sure it was full of water and hot and the end of the cycle. It is both full and hot, so the disherwasher itself is working fine. Liquid dishwasher soap it is! |

Perhaps it's the type of pod? I have been using the Finish dishwasher pods in my dishwasher for 8 years. Once, it didn't dissolve properly, but that was user error (thanks, kids). It does go in the compartment, and works fine. |

I quit the pods cold turkey when I read they can clog up your machine. Gel works noticeably better in my dishwasher so win/win. |

Yeah, after my little test last night I used the gel and it worked just fine. |
